   Does "celebrity" make unattractive people attractive?  What examples of this do you know?
   
   I often look at pictures of celebrities whom the public consider to be beautiful/handsome and think to myself that if I saw them on the street I wouldn't think that much of them (based solely on outward appearance).  I find it interesting that fame can make someone more attractive in people's eyes...

   Jamie Fox... Tyra Banks, she kinda like an alien. Oprah Winfrey. ..Jennifer Aniston, boney...visible vertebrae. Lady gaga...if any of them walked down the street no one would look twice or care. And I bet they'd say that before their celebrity no one found them attractive.

      Yes, but this is because when they start making money, they can hire a team of makeup artists, and doctors to correct what the image makers claim are their imperfections. So yeah, most would not be noticible, without the masks and alterations.

      There are always those "seen without makeup" shots that help us mere mortals to see these celebs without the touch ups.  But there are some that even made up just aren't attractive, but people think they are.

   petenali:  I always crack up when People Magazine has on their cover, "The most beautiful man in the world" or "the most beautiful woman in the world."  REALLY?
   
   I personally do not think "celebrity" makes unattractive people attractive.  They are just popular, and if spotted on the street, I am guessing spectators want to get his/her picture taken just to prove they ran into a "celebrity." 
   
   Some of the most beautiful celebrities are not "beautiful" inside.  One day my sister was watching a talk show and the guest celebrities were Carrie Underwood and one of the stars of the television show, "Glee" Matthew Morrison.  Carrie and Matthew were each asked individually sing a song.
   
   Carrie went first.  My sister had the closed caption on, and when Carrie was finished with her song she mumbled something to Matthew Morrison which the audience could not hear.  BUT the closed caption printed what she said to Matthew Morrison: "Follow THAT!"  Also I have read she has been rude to her fans and refused to give an autograph to a little boy.  IF all this is true, then, in my eyes, she is not beautiful.  She is arrogant.
   
   Examples of celebrities I think are beautiful are people like Carol Burnett, Valerie Harper, who is battling cancer and inspiring millions with her fight, and one wonderful man from the past, Red Skeleton.  If you have never heard him recite the pledge of allegiance, google him and look it up. 
   
   Celebrities who are beautiful are those with HEART, HUMILITY and who are kind to their fans.

      Sparklea, I 100% agree that it is the inside that makes someone beautiful and there will be times when everybody lets you down.  My question was solely about the exterior appearance & how fame seems to make people more attractive in the public's

      OH, Okay, I do believe those who become celebrities are perceived by individuals to be more attractive, whereas, before that time, they were never noticed.  Thanks for the correction.

   This is such a great question! I think the word celebrity is like make-up, meaning your appearance can change with a little help.
   
   I think I am pretty, but if I ever get famous I will get certain things about me fixed, that I can't currently afford on my income.

      Firstly, it was great to hear that you think you are pretty.  Many women are not so self assured. "Getting things fixed" is a personal decision.  Many celebs have had things fixed but are still not attractive, but others think they are.

   You know, I don't think so. If you look at someone like Kim Kardashian, you'd have to say no. She looked nice before she became a celebrity, but she's had so much alterations done via surgery...the image of "beauty" that is claimed about her is all fake, and she looks plastic already, and she's just turned 30. Imagine what a creature she will look like in another 10-20 years. Look at what Michael Jackson did to himself. Look at Joan Rivers....scary. All the slicing and cutting up does not create beauty. God does. The original is the best. Aside from that, true beauty radiates from the inside out, not the other way around. That's my two cents.

      God is the One who creates beauty indeed.  The world has caused many to judge their beauty against others and society rather than rest in who they were made to be.

   I think there is two answers to this question, the first being that however ugly they are they can afford to have facials etc to make themselves look much better, and money always makes someone look attractive to someone else! lol!

      Agreed, money does seem to be an attractive quality, but what does that say about the onlooker?  No matter how many facials etc. some people are still just plain....well, PLAIN!  An yet people think they are "hot!"  Strange.

   Absolutely! Fame, wealth, power, and celebrity or simply being the "center of attention" in large meetings/conferences or a leader of a large organization boosts one's charisma/magnetism.
   Lots of celebrities have stated they were practically "invisible" during their school years and faced numerous rejections for dates and other social activities. Naturally fame changes all of that!
   One example of someone who is (average in appearance) but is often made out to be "beautiful" simply because she is famous is Sarah Jessica Parker.  A couple of others who look (okay) but are not exactly drop dead gorgeous are Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and Selena Gomez. Airbrushed magazine covers and (soft) lighting on these women still can't hide the fact that none of these women would win (any) state beauty pageants! And yet People Magazine includes them in their "Most beautiful people in the world"  issue.
   The truth is you can go just about anywhere and you will see lots of "drop dead gorgeous" women and men who are completely unknown but actually look better than a lot of famous celebrities!

      Absolutely.  I hadn't given any names, but Taylor Swift was in my mind when posing the question.  another would be Julia Roberts.  Yet, both have been deemed beautiful by the masses (along with many others...)

   No, I don't think it can make anyone more attractive. Cosmetic surgery may help impart a more youthful appearance, but the end product is subjective to the eye of the beholder.
   
   However, I do feel many people live in a state of gushing awe over the famous because they are dissatisfied with themselves or their own lives. These people tend to see celebrities through rose-colored glasses and everything about celebrities will always be, for them, more attractive and exciting than anything or anyone in the real world.

      Good point - perhaps this attraction speak more about what is going on inside the onlookers.  Many walk around feeling inadequate or unattractive and seek these things vicariously through celebrities.

   yes, I believe as long as you are famous or even a little famous you will get people who want to look at you or be with you or like you.Also if you know how to do something well you attract people.  Witness the school football star or the person who plays an instrument in the school band. These do not have any trouble finding a date,while perhaps the more beautiful but serious student may spend weekends alone. this is not always the case of course,but general the popular sports or drama club person is well more popular.

    Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has wondered about this? I read that perhaps 1 to 3% of the population is actually truly beautiful, as far as physical beauty, which entails having a certain symmetry of the face and body. Thus, Jennifer Aniston comes to mind--she has a perfectly lovely body, but no particular symmetry in her face. That having been said, I think she knows this about herself, which is why her hair often hides her face a bit. But when all is said and done, it's sort of refreshing that she hasn't "fixed" her nose. She is pretty, but not beautiful by any means. So to answer your question, yes, there is this glaze that comes over people's eyes when they see celebrities. I don't get it, but it's true.  Yet the fact remains, you're either beautiful or you're not... and most people are not-- like 97%.

       Phew, at least you and I are in the top 3% Savvy.  Glad you agree with me on this subject matter and I totally agree with you about Jennifer Aniston.  For me, Rachel McAdams would be in that 3% with us but Angelina Jolie would not.... just saying.

       Yep, yep and yep.  There are so many.  I think people are attracted to their lifestyle really, because purely beauty wise, there are some seriously homely celebs that are considered hot.  e.g. Kristen Stewart = really very plain.

    I think the Kardashians look better to us because they're rich and famous. Plus, they're usually photographed when they're done up professionally by makeup artists and hair dressers and wearing designer clothes. Their business is to look good and promote an image of youthful sexiness. Many times I see Kim in outfits that look horrible -- way too tight and ill-fitting -- but people say she looks great because she's a celebrity. It's like that fairy tale, "The Emperor's New Clothes," where the king is naked but everyone is too afraid to say something because he is, after all, the king!
