I think that the biggest sin of all is to kill. I think it's the first one listed within the ten commandments and it is the biggest sin of all because it is taking someone else's life away.

The first commandment is No other gods before me. The sixth commandment is Do not murder. There is a huge difference legally and spiritually between kill and murder.

Perhaps another word for it is ego -- the source of all selfishness and separateness. Ego is even the source of suicide -- the fatal attempt to show the world who is right or to escape responsibility.

Christianity speaks of seven deady sins, and in Yoga philosophy they speak of five Cardinal vices.: Ego, (ahamkara) greed, (lobo) lust, (kama) attachment Moha) and anger (Khroda). They are all pretty similar really, and most other things spring from them.. I learnt in my first three months of the spiritual life, that for everything in the East, there is an equivalent in the West, and I have been pursuing this lifestyle for 31 years now.

Let me just say that Spirituality is always in stages. The baby just does not jump into manhood, and in the same way, one won't be a Mother Theresa overnight. For instance, my biggest thing is purity, but it may harm someone else who is not quite ready for it. The Christian mystics say that purity is the lily of all virtues. Still, there are people who manage physical purity fairly easily and yet have very restless minds and inner hatred or resentment!

We are all better at some things than others. In a family of three, one likes music, another sports and a third Religion. Enough said. So my thing is purity. (Or lust in the Cardinal five) I feel that at a certain stage of the spiritual life, purity is essential to hold the higher forces coming down. Without inner purity, without a clean inner vessel, it is very difficult to hold the Light.

Purity is a necessary preparation for the descent of Higher Forces, that is why all faiths have their monks, and you get rules which make women dress in long robes or modest clothes so as not to attract or create temptations. They have their inner meanings. Trust me. The loss of semen weakens us while affecting the development of our psychic nerves.

Still, I will repeat here that for some, a slow and steady approach is the best, and for others, it may be an entirely different vice like anger, ego, attachment or greed. Hope this helps.

According to scripture, as I read it, There is no hierarchy of sin. God looks upon all sin as falling below His standards equally.
The New Testament  talks about blaspheming the Holy Spirit as unpardonable, to me not being able to be forgiven of something would be the worst. This is talked about as unpardonable, because a believer not only fails to acknowledge God, but worse yet says He doesn't believe in God.
That is Spiritual Treason, the punishment is death, but death is the punishment for sin, without God's grace and Jesus blood, so if the punishment is the same, the sins must be equal.

Not believing in God or Christ can be forgiven. Not believing in your own true self (the Holy Ghost) cannot be forgiven, because you are hiding that which needs forgiveness.

The way i see it is there is only one "real" sin, and that would be if a person let their "ego" mind take control of them...All sins that peeps do in my opinion, are because of their weak corrupt minds...Only the mind can come up with a bad idea, and then cause us to sin in the first place...A person led by there heart (not their "ego" mind), would never need to sin as the'd have all they need already. :-)

The biggest sin is to deny your own spiritual self.

Religion and the Bible are all about a rescue mission. Your true, spiritual self cannot be rescued if you pretend you don't exist. Forgiveness of sins is the rescue.

The New Testament describes this in at least two places, where it says that the only unforgivable sin is to say bad against the Holy Ghost.
    Matthew 12:32
    Mark 3:29

And scripture affirms this identification with the Holy Ghost.
    1 Corinthians 6:19–20

Murder, rape, incest, defaming Christ, blasphemy against God and more can be forgiven. Only speaking bad about or denying the existence of the Holy Ghost (your true self) can never be forgiven, because you have taken away the ability to forgive your self by denying your own existence.

It's like having a car that is broken down. The repairman cannot repair your car if you pretend you do not have a car and keep it hidden away.
