What made/makes so many teachers in elementary school become quite uncomfortable with assertive,
independent thinking girls who refuse to follow the traditional feminine mold, often viewing such girls as problematic, even discipline problems?
What age are we talking about and is it possible that these young girls are simply molding themselves to peer pressure and what is deemed to be in vogue? If this is the case, how is this a good thing? Can you distinguish between assertive and aggressive, assertive and rude, assertive and bullying?
What precisely is that traditional feminine mold? I would be interested in your description. You allude to the observation that the traditional mold is harmful or detrimental to young girls; I would be interested as to why that is.
That traditional mold, as you call it, seemed to provide for a greater self respect then they demonstrate today. Perhaps, that old adage of, "The morality of a society is defined by the the morality of its women." is true and possibly the lack of such moral conduct in today's women accounts for the deterioration in our society. But I would be interested in a greater understanding of your premise.
Wow. Once again, women are to blame for the deterioration of society: refusing to sit still, shut-up and do as one is told being the traditional female role, (especially in school systems / churches,) and yet, they're the ones to blame?
Nicole--When I was in school it was always the boys who were being told to sit down and shut up, should girls be treated differently?
Girls are beloved by school systems for their superior ability to sit down, shut up, and "behave." Why on earth would a teacher encourage the traditionally masculine characteristics that make the majority of boys poor students?! They'd be making their own job way harder and they have enough on their plate as it is! I'm not saying this is how things should be, only that it is.
