   What alternatives have you served in place of Turkey at Thanksgiving?
   
   Do you always have turkey on Thanksgiving or do you serve something else in place of turkey on Thanksgiving?  Some people always have the traditional turkey while others substitute other things - what have you used as an alternative to turkey for Thanksgiving dinner?

   I personally enjoy turkey but my wife finds it too dry so we often replace turkey with chicken, but even then, she's not a fan of breast meat.

   We always have turkey. I roast a really, really good, moist turkey, if I can say so myself. However, that doesn't mean that some year I wouldn't mind skipping it. . . . Maybe we'd have salmon with all the traditional T-day sides. Hmm. Something to contemplate one day.

   I always serve turkey, but we also serve another meat. It's usually smoked ham, but we've served crown roast of pork, standing beef rib roast, and pork butts, too. One year we smoked a goose that the ex had shot. Sometimes we have seafood, too.

   It is mainly Americans who celebrate Thanksgiving, so we don't have turkey on that date. That is not to say that we don't give thanks, but just not the way you do.

   Tofurkey - my friend is a vegan so I wanted to give that a try.  Well, I never served it again...!

   My only successful Turkey substitution was Greek Lemon Garlic Chicken with roasted potatoes instead of mashed potatoes. One year I was challenged to do a vegetarian Thanksgiving meal. I chose Eggplant parmesan as the main dish. The problem is that an Italian dish does not go very good with many traditional side dishes like cranberry sauce or mashed potatoes. If you have the money, pan seared scallops or lobster tails might work well as a substitute.
