    Probably because they don't like doing achievement systems, at least that's the only reason I can think of. I mean really think about it: what good are achievements for anyways other than bragging rights? I can understand if you have points or whatever like Xbox and Playstation do but some platforms don't even give you points for completed achievements (like with Steam), which in my opinion makes it even more pointless.

      It's nice having a automatic record of what you have completed, and reasons to re-play the games.

    I think they're trying to keep "make fun games" at the top of their list of things their console will do. Achievement systems are addictive and social, but they're not really all that fun.

    Basically achievement systems are skinner boxing mechanics. Nintendo doesn't really like those types of mechanics.
