Do you post your pictures with or without borders?
After three years on HP, I just happened to notice the choice of framing the photos we post on our hub with a border or not. Hahaha When reading a hub of others, which photos are more visually appealing to you, the ones with the border or not?
I like using the border, Faith. I guess maybe half or more of my hub pics have borders. I think it gives a cleaner, crisper look to the hub. But I've seen some amazing-looking hubs without borders. So it depends on the quality of the overall formatting and choice of quality images.
Thanks Jan! That is exactly the kind of insight I was looking for here. Yes, is does depend on that factor as well.
Bless you
I've never "bordered" a photo here. In fact, it was only recently that I even noticed that it was an option. Haha
Haha me too! I'm glad I am not the only one. I have never bordered a photo in my three years here until my last one, only because I noticed one could.
Generally I post without borders allowing for the space to define the image or so I prefer to think. I do use borders when I wish to draw specific attention onto an image offering a greater impact of context contrast the content it is posted next to. Let me first share is I have never posted a pic with a border as a full image. I only post pics with a border as a capsule within the context.
Do I recommend that? Not really it is an aesthetic reasoning while that philosophical point arrives through a hunch, intuition, or a feeling. Of course we all have each our own precepts for that, so most certainly will vary.
I do suggest with playing with it for context try it one way, close the hub, walk away and clear the mind (Maybe practice some mindfulness emptying the brain), and then come back and view it in presentation form. Then write down the first 3 - 5 things that presentation with or without the border says to you. Next, write down 3 - 5 things you think or believe it says to the 'audience' you seek to influence with an effect. Repeat the process the other way.
You may then discover for 'self' a design principal or principals particular to your liking as well as how you with perspective believe or think the audience will be effected. That may become a means for future usage with that personal preference as a design principal.
I hope that helps. That is what I did. I played with a hub for for day just having fun seeking discoveries even asking another for their view. Ultimately I came up with how I 'like' it for both being context related to the content and as context having an impact as a stand alone device.
Wow, Tim, thank you for the great answer! Yes, that is what I was feeling when I post a photo without a border it seems to draw one into the scene and make one feel as if you are there, but with a border, it seems it is hanging on a wall.
Thank you for choosing the reply as a 'Best'. It is appreciated :-)
Hi Tim, oh, you are welcome. It is a great answer and you provided a lot of insight that I had not thought about here. Thank you again!
When they are large and in their own capsule I use a frame. When they are in capsules with writing, or thumbnails, I usually avoid frames. It sometimes depends on what is in the photo/image.
Hi Kevin, those are great examples of when to use a border and not. Yes, I think it does depend on what the hub is about and how you want others to view the photo as part of the scene or bring attention to detail for a reason for adding a border.
it depends. Sometimes photos with borders are fine. But at times what makes a picture more interesting is without border. We need to test it by giving and leaving that option, by so you can reach on your conclusion that which one is better.
Hi Suni, Yes, that's true. If the photo is to bring attention to some fact, then maybe a border is good, but to me when you want someone to be drawn into the actual hub, the non-bordered photos may be best. However, it is good to test it.
I say to each his or her own, but personally I prefer the finished look of a border.
Hi Larry, yes, to each his/her own. It is a matter of preference, and I can see using a border with certain topics. Thank you for answering.
I've never thought about borders on my pictures. So I really haven't noticed what others do. I'm perfectly OK with doing it as I always do--without borders.
Hi Dr Billy Kidd, me too, however, I just noticed the option after three years on HP LOL.
With borders, without birders i feel like my pictures are naked
Hi peachy, Hahaha, well, we don't want naked pictures. Thanks for sharing.
After experimenting with using them or not, I just use whichever looks best to me at the time of posting or when updating with new pics. A casual hub usually does not get a border where a more serious one probably would have a border around at least the opening photo. I should probably take time to look closely at what others are doing on this as that might change my perspective…
Hi RTalloni, That makes a lot of sense. Now that I know about the borders, maybe I will experiment too. I need to look more closely too at what others are doing. Thanks!
I always use borders. I started using them from day one and I guess it has become a habit...or maybe obsession! Haha!
Hi Linda, Really ... you know I have been on here for three years and have not even noticed that option LOL Duh, which way did I go ... Oh, you and YOUR obsessions! Hahaha : )

I see no need for a lengthy introduction to this thread. No need to make mention of the historical stats to prove the point that Biden's administration has seen many millions presenting at our border, and this week we see a huge increase in the numbers. What looks like will be historic numbers for...

Well I finally had my first Post-Panda incident with disabled ads. I'm guessing it's because there is a picture of a girl in a (gasp!) bikini on it. I e-mailed the Team to see what is wrong for sure, so I'll wait for their reply. I cant post a link to said Hub because that would be promoting. But...

I've been trying to upload pictures on a hub for the past couple days but it every time it pops up with a message that says "error occured while uploading" or something close to that. At first I thought it might be because I didn't have the rights to the photo i was trying to upload but I...

When our hubs were once chosen, we had a way to see what was supposed to be fixed before it appeared on a niche site. Now I don't see anything like that. It could be me, but there was a way to see what they wanted added or deleted. It's very frustrating. Yesterday I was told my hub on Zeus, the...
