   The best sandwich is clearly a good old-fashioned cheeseburger. The elegant simplicity of beef and cheese (and whatever toppings you desire) inside a soft, warm bun is one of the greatest achievements of mankind.

      Peanut butter, butter and jelly sandwiches on toast are a simply delicious meal for me at least once a week if not more. I love them just as you say too, jaydawg.

   Homemade for sure. What kind depends on my mood at the time. One day it may be a thick Reuben. Another it may be the basic PB&J with a huge glass of cold milk. That's the beauty of a sandwich--the possibilities are endless.

   Sandwiches are such a delight that it would be hard to assign the meaning of best for me of least. I think at this moment the 'best' sandwich in the world for me was the one I had for dinner. M'm . . . M'm that was certainly good and yes, homemade.
   
   What made it the best sandwich for me is the dream of having that sandwich. I looked forward to it while gave thought to its entirety. A result of spontaneity while shopping the Oroweat Double Fiber bread was on sale close to half price. Shaazaaam! The beginning of the dream. Next, meandering further there was the Land of Frost Smoked Ham & Turkey packet designed for 6 subs again on sale. The dream grew larger and my eyes wider still.
   
   Further along was the produce worker plopping new heads of lettuce into the bin. Not on sale, but assuredly fresh. By that time realization struck dill pickle would be needed and yes, once again a sale item. Those Stackers sliced evenly would be just right. The Mayo and mustard was at home waiting its companions.
   
   What followed was a few days of having to eat stuff nearing the toss date, so I had cereal to consume the milk while I pondered that sandwich for the next day. The day began as most except today I was going to play mother nature and water the garden. I also did weeding and a little dead heading. The appetite grew. The vision began to form. The toil of a long day offered a prize to be won and a treasure to be savored.
   
   As I made the sandwich care was offered that it was just so. Plenty of meat. Pickles dried with a paper towel offering no sogginess. Heaped on mayo with artistically added yellow mustard swirling within it offering a tasty delightful pizazz. The lettuce brought the always welcomed entertainment of a good 'crunch' sound. Got to have that. Of course the saltiness and crunch of potato chips accompanying the 'sandwich' added enough distraction that it held my interest from beginning to end.
   
   Done! That sandwich tonight for dinner was the 'best' sandwich in the world for me of least. The cost was much less than half of those by the franchise sandwich shops while its contents could compete with any independent sandwich shoppe in town. M'm . . . M'm!!!

      Oroweat Double Fiber Bread is a wonderful base for a great sandwich indeed, Tim.  The sandwich you built sounds like a slice of heaven to me. I think it is going to be a sandwich day for me.  Mouth is watering!

   I think the best sandwich in the world, the Ideal sandwich, should contain all the elements that the sandwich eater enjoys most. So I guess what I'm saying is that the BEST is a purely subjective choice, a sandwich constructed,created, invented, by an individual for that individual's taste.
   So to answer this question fully I'll have to go back through the history of my own sandwich making and eating, a huge task!
   I could bore you to tears with tales of childhood sandwiches, ranging from ketchup and butter on plain white, to banana slices with chocolate flake on seeded wholemeal, both simple and delightful. And of course let's not forget the teenage fiend - fried spam and HP brown sauce sandwich, eaten at midnight listening to heavy rock with a mug of hot strong tea.
   Moving on to present day tastes I'd have to say that my current BEST sandwich involves mature farmhouse cheddar, crisp lettuce, slices of beetroot, seasoning and all topped off with horse radish sauce. With a bottle of Crafty Old Hen ale to quaff, there's not much on the menu to better this classic combo. But then again, one man's meat is another man's poison!

   A local Deli in my home town, called Lucy's, makes a killer vegetarian sandwich. The cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions are thinly sliced with provolone cheese and a pesto mayo. And it comes on a hearty grain bread. I could eat that sandwich every day.

    That's easy...it's the sandwich I make for my wife every day.
    
    2 slices Dave's bread (21 grains and seeds)
    thin spread of mayo/olive oil on each piece of bread
    1 TBL SPN sweet pickle relish on mayo on one side of bread
    2 slices Tillamook cheddar cheese
    1 slice lite Jarlsberg cheese
    3 thin slices turkey breast
    
    Cut in half and serve with apple and orange slices on the side

       Chuck, I don't believe I have ever had Jarlsberg cheese. Sounds like a good combo for my all time favorite apple smoked Gruyere cheese though. Thanks for sharing that.

    I would say, the best sandwich ever in the world is that prepared with your own hands or by your mother. None else in the world can ever be equal to that own prepared one. See the feelings and satisfaction that you get in your own eyes and in the eyes of your family members, when you prepare it serve it to them.
