   This was a vision , we know that Moses and Elijah had died , but this vision represented
   more than just a vision, but he was facing his death soon to come by his enemies.
   
   During that event Notice what also took place
   Mt 17:2 And he was transfigured before them; his face shone as the sun, and his outer garments became brilliant as the light.
   
   , Mt 17:5 While he was still speaking, look! a bright cloud overshadowed them, and look! a voice out of the cloud said: “This is my Son, the beloved, whom I have approved. Listen to him.”
   The transfiguration,or vision , it seems, served to fortify Christ for his sufferings and death, while it also comforted his followers and strengthened their faith. It showed that Jesus had God’s approval, and it was a foreview of his future glory and Kingdom power. It presaged the presence of Christ, when his kingly authority would be complete.
   
   Also The three that witnessed this vision were told not to report it at that time only after Jesus resurrection.
   
   We can say that that was a ancient hologram , but
   We know it is not real.

   The transfiguration was a vision of the passing away of the Old Covenant glory, symbolised by the departing of Moses and Elijah…Luke 9:33; thereby making way for the greater New Covenant glory of the Lord Jesus Christ.

      Thank you Kathleen. Jesus fulfilled all the Law and the Prophets. He is the antitype of the types and foreshadows of the Messiah in the Old Testament.

   In Exodus 4:6-8 we see Moses' hand change from a color to white then back to color before god tells him if they will not believe you [Moses] nor listen to the one the white hand represents [Yoshua called Jesus] that they will listen to the later sign [Malachi 4:5-6's Elijah].  Thus, Elijah is the third son of god the voice spoke of when it said "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him" in Matthew 17:5.  Everyone is looking for a light skinned Jesus but Exodus say he will be a man of color, as well as the description in Revelation 1:14-15. 
   
   In Malachi the name Elijah is written but there is a name which means "Wise Counselor" in both Hebrew and English as one who turns the hearts of the fathers and the hearts of the sons to each other.  Then there is a name meaning "Defender of Man" in both languages as someone who prevents something from happening.  There is also a name in both languages meaning "The Latter" for the latter sign in Exodus and the spirit told me that will be the name of the Elijah we seek as the second coming of christ. 
   
   We should also read Matthew 11:1-15 and compare it with Isaiah 52:13-53-12 when we are looking for the second coming of christ.  Revelation 5:12 should also be included in our study of who the second coming is.

   Hi I really love questions that cause you to think while reminding us how the events in the Bible aren't just stories used to fill pages but lessons we are being taught. Based on what I know of the the lives and purposes of Moses and Elijah it is my opinion that each one of them represented what the old testament was all about. Moses spoke with God and Elijah walked with Him. When Moses received the law from God his face lit up from the glory of God the same way Jesus' does at transfiguration. Elijah never saw death but was carried up in a chariot. I believe those two men were there along with certain disciples so the disciples could finally understand who Jesus was. After they disappeared and only Jesus was left. It seems as if God wanted to teach us that the days of the law and prophets had passed. That now we talk directly with Jesus as moses did God. And we walk with Him as Elijah did. That after the Resurrection of Jesus He has fulfilled the law and so Moses who represented it was gone. And prophecy up to that point was fulfilled and so Elijah who represented it was gone. Now we live by grace through faith no longer law. And we walk and fellowship with the Holy Spirit as Elijah did God.
   
   Of course there were things I said that is Scriptural. But the majority of it is simply my understanding of what lesson was being taught. Since we know for a fact God was teaching the disciples as well as us through that experience.
