   I'm no computer nerd but the way I heard it the fewer programs it automatically loads the quicker the time.  For example, you might not need things like Google Maps, and Photo changing program permanently installed.   You just temporarily download them when you need them.
   
   Other things might come into it like a regular 'defrag.'   I'm pretty certain you'll get a lot of good answers to your question.  There are a lot of computer-savvy people on Hubpages.

   I also think defragging your main drive (C: on windows) should help a little bit and if you do use MyDefrag which is free and optimizes the drive as well as defragging it. Meaning it will place program files in a faster location on the harddrive than user files for example. There is also a program called Ccleaner that I use, the free version, and it cleans your registry which makes windows PCs faster and I might increase boot performance but not sure.
   
   In terms of hardware, some people install solid state drives and put the OS and program files on it and the user data on the hard disk drive. This will give a significant increase in boot up and program loading performance.
   
   That's about as much as I know.
   
   There is also the option of putting the computer to sleep instead of turning it off which means it doesn't have to go through the whole boot process but I don't know what the cons are.

   I did so by cleaning up my desktop and making sure other programs that weren't needed weren't automatically running when I start the computer. Defragging is typically a waste of time for me but maybe your experience could be different. If you never turn your computer off there is a slight chance that someone would have more of an ability to hack into it. You may want to make sure that you don't have any adware/malware and other things on your computer that you're not aware of as well. Other things can slow your computer down or bring it to an untimely death.

   The best way to speed up the boot time of your computer is to add a new Solid State Device harddrive  as your system drive. I recently upgraded my computer to a SSD drive (128 GB SSD) as my boot drive and my start times went from minutes to secs. It is unbelievable.
   
   The conversion was very simple.
