The majority of people hate & envy the wealthy because the wealthy can do things & have opportunities that they don't & won't ever have.  They also hate the wealthy because they live a charmed life without socioeconomic worries while they have to worry constantly about making ends meet, paying bills, & worrying about  falling through the socioeconomic cracks.  Remember, the majority of people are one-half to three-fourths of a paycheck away from homelessness.  Wealthy people don't have this problem.  In fact, they have monies for the necessities, luxuries, savings, & investments.   The majority hate the fact that there are people who are not constantly struggling socioeconomically but are living a rarified socioeconomic life.

They also envy & hate the wealthy because the latter are living the life that they dream of.   They deem that wealthy as lucky while they are cursed to a purgatorial fate.  They actually hate themselves & their paltry lifestyle but instead of improving themselves educationally & socioeconomically, they displace their hatred on the rich because they are living a desired life while they are on a constant socioeconomic treadmill which stays the same, with instances that are changing for the worst.  They may even feel that THEY should be the ones who are wealthy.  They figure that if they AREN'T wealthy, why should anyone else be !

They also hate & envy the wealthy because the latter lead more interesting lives whereas their lives are very monotonous because of their socioeconomic standing.  They feel very constricted because they don't have the money to do as they desire.  They have to live within limits whereas the wealthy can lead unlimited lives because money is simply no object to them.  They see the wealthy as living a completely, boundless lifestyle with the sky being the limit.  They know that because of their socioeconomic condition, they have to live proverbially near the ground.

They envy, even hate the wealthy because the wealthy have the socioeconomic freedom to pick & choose as they please as opposed to them who must take what is dished out at best or  being satisfied with the crumbs of life.  They know that they are socioeconomic slaves because they don't have sufficient funds.  They exist at the behest of those who hold the socioeconomic strings while those who are wealthy can pull & manipulate the socioeconomic strings.

There's also the simple fact that the rich buy out politicians that infest our government and give tax breaks to their wealthy benefactors while screwing the poor over repeatedly. Yeah, that sounds like a good reason for a little bit of vitriol.

Are they really hated and envied? I think we want to live in their light and not in their shadows, but hate has to be a strong word. I can digest envy, but why should we envy?  Interesting question my friend smile

Some who candidly share their opinions about the wealthy with me have simultaneously shown hatred & envy of the wealthy. They say they hate so-and-so because she's selfish (untrue) & will say they want the things/money the person they hate ha

Rich people love to show off to friends and relatives that they are rich, afford to waste their money on tours, what is the point to envy and bear grudges?

It is a sad state of affairs when you think you have to have money to be interesting or free.  In the past people wanted to be rich so they got to eat regularly.  Today, most people who envy rich people are a product of our society. They are not grateful for what they do have.  Look at what happens in a school where free lunches are given.  Veggies and fruit are tossed in the thrash.
A friend of mine  works with military kids in Europe. She was visiting last week.  One of the things she loves about those kids.  They are grateful for any loving or small thing they receive.  They are not rich, and  they have no stability, but their grateful for the small things in life.  Kevin,. what the world needs more of is gratitude.

Having seen & worked with kids who received free lunches & their parents, I know FNV can be tossed because their parents can't afford FNV regularly if at all. They have no taste for healthy foods because they have no regular access to them.

Is WIC a California program?.  It is only supposed to be used on nutritional food like milk, eggs, and veggies.  Back in the day food stamps only let you buy those foods.  Guess it's not so now..

Envy comes first, then comes hate because they wish they were in the rich peoples shoes. Often the ones who hate are the ones who feel they deserve what the rich people have. People nowadays seem to have a sense of entitlement and when they don't get what they feel they are entitled to, they start to hate the people who they perceive as having what they should have.

    Two emotions:
    * wanting what they have
    * hating them for having what you don't have

The wealthy are often hated & hated because poor, struggling people can't see beyond their socioeconomic purview.  They are struggling & refuse to see any lifestyle which is outside their impoverished mindset.  There are PEOPLE  who have THAT mindset, they don't believe that ANYONE should be rich, all should be struggling because  THEY are.  They SHOULD mind THEIR business- if others want to BECOME wealthy, it is the latter's business, not the former's.  However that is the mind of the impoverished, struggling haters- they AREN'T rich & don't want OTHERS to be rich.  They have the crab in the barrel mentality.

They are jealous and have no idea how the wealthy got that way. So they are also frustrated. They are also lazy. They are also in denial about all their bad habits which prevent them from being able to get ahead, financially. In short, they are not ready to become wealthy. There is a certain amount of karma involved. Some are just not there yet and they know it.

It's been my experience that people who perceive themselves as wealthy think they are envied, when they aren't. Maybe, it's simply their insecurities which cause this.

That isn't true.   There are people who ENVY, even HATE wealthy people.  Such people lead a life of struggle & hate for others to have a BETTER life than they do.  There are plenty of them here.  They believe that NO ONE should be wealthy & they consistently rail against such people.   There are HATERS among the lower socioeconomic classes.   If a person is wealthy, it is NONE of their damned business.  Improve your socioeconomic life, DON'T worry about the wealthy- they got THEIRS!

It's funny, really. I know people like some here. Middle class. Dreaming of being filthy rich. Cutting down those who couldn't care less about wealth. I think it makes them feel wealthy. Insecurities. They're a bitch.

There is no such thing as FEELING wealthy.   You have to be monetary wealthy-like a multimillionaire to be wealthy.  Even one million dollars per annum AIN'T wealthy.   Either you ARE wealthy or you AIN'T.  FEELING wealthy is a form of schizophrenia.

If a person is middle class, I mean SOLIDLY middle class at the minimum- there is NO WAY in hell that h/she FEELS wealthy.  Middle class AIN'T wealthy by a long shot.  Middle class is MIDDLING.......even the upper middle class is middling even though some believe in their minds that they are WEALTHY.  They are so SADLY mistaken.  Only multimillionaires & above can be classified as wealthy.  Mere millionaires are in the upper middle class but on the periphery of being wealthy in this day & age.

Dreaming of being wealthy is totally futilitarian unless one WORKS for it.  Dreaming means utter bullcrap.  Want something, WORK, WORK for it!  It can be DONE if one WANTS IT BAD ENOUGH.  If you don't want it, stfu & let others do THEIR thing!  Dreaming w/o work is NOTHING.  Some have the DRIVE & BRAINS to be wealthy, others DON'T.  Let those who have THAT DRIVE & BRAINS be wealthy if they DESIRE to do so-others who DON'T, mind YOUR BUSINESS & tend to YOUR affairs.

            wealth·y  (wĕl′thē)
            adj. wealth·i·er, wealth·i·est
            1. Having wealth; rich. See Synonyms at rich.
            2. Marked by abundance: a wealthy land.
            3. Well supplied: wealthy in compassion.

Check out #3.  Or #1; "rich" can be used the same way.

It also takes vision. I know a kid, in his twenties, who lived with us for awhile. Came to CA from CO. He was an artist, a street artist back in CO where he had been painting huge owls on trains etc. He wanted to make it big in CA. He wrote and wrote about his visions and positive affirmations. I just came across his many notebooks with writings from '07. They were filled with his dreams about a successful gallery show. He had envisioned the whole event: people discussing and enjoying his art, patrons buying his works. He had decided on the amount of money he wanted to earn and decided on the amount of time he would spend to create works of art worthy of high market value.

Sure enough in '08 he had a show. I went to the opening where wine and crackers were served and people were enjoying the show and discussing his drawings, paintings and unique sculptured frames.  Four of the pieces were paintings done on huge sheets of sheet metal, which he had worked on for about two months. The price per painting :$10,000. A man loved them and bought two. They were done in the style of surrealism:  The imagery involved ocean scenes (on and in) as I recall. He earned more than twenty thousand dollars in one night.

This artist did a lot of prep work on a MENTAL level. MENTAL thoughts and planning WILL produce results. Jealousy and rage regarding the wealthy is a  H U G E  wast of time.
