Do you think celebrities are nice people?
I'm talking about those actors who are in the realm of Hollywood and surrounded by models, beautiful people, and money and fancy stuff 24/7. Do you think they can be genuinely caring people, or are they probably all narcissistic and look down on the rest of America?
I think most of them are genuinely caring people. Being in front of people, having fans snapping pictures of you and your loved ones everywhere you go... basically every time you turn around, someone is your face... can simply become annoying. I wouldn't want that lifestyle and if it were happening to me, I might appear to be snobbish - ignoring cameras just so I could enjoy my life without being hassled.
This depends on the individual person, some are nice and have to be because thay depend on viewers. Then you have those that are jerks because they don't care about anything.
I seem to think sport celebrities are presented as 'nice' in the spotlight than are Hollywood celebrities. As Marlene pointed out the Hollywood actors are being intruded upon. Actors in general and many musicians are gossiped about with great intensity.
I think of the show TMZ ridiculing celebrities. At times there is a little gleam of hope presented, but rarely. I don't read the printed gossip, although they seem to be very similar. Actors and many musical artists are always singled out and evaluated.
Like everyone else I suppose it depends on the circumstances you meet and what is going on in their life at the time. They're just human beings. They have parents, siblings, and friends like everyone else.
It's the fans and media who turn them into consumer products.
Some of the comments you see written about celebrities at the bottom of online articles you'd believe most people don't think celebrities have feelings. They're shredded for gaining weight, losing too much weight, clothes they wear, performances in movies or whatever, comments made about their children and significant others/spouses. Paranoia can be mistaken for narcissism.
No matter how popular a celebrity is they have their "vocal haters"!
Everyone is entitled to have an opinion about current events but if a celebrity shares theirs they are often ridiculed by one side or the other. Essentially they're just "court jesters" who should remain quiet.
We as a society "dehumanize them" and then we're shocked when they're not friendly as we ask them for autographs while they share a meal with their family in a restaurant or use a bathroom stall next to us, relax on the beach, or take their kids to Disneyland.
No one can be "on" 24/7!
Some of them have had insane stalkers (break into their homes), send hate mail or threaten them. Sometimes the perception of them being narcissistic is nothing more than their desire to find moments of privacy. Generally that requires staying in exclusive places and associating with people who are in the same boat as them.
Most celebrities have sponsored charities and other causes, participated in "Make a wish foundation" and the like but no matter what they do or how much money they donate it will never be enough for some folks. Maybe people's envy and jealousy is at the root of it.
Celebrities are people too, there are very little limitation on what sort of people cut out to be celebrity. To be an actor/actress is easy, acting skill is easy, anybody can do it, pop star is a bit harder, not everybody can sing. Models depends on whether you are talk about high class or low class, the ordinary models in a cloth whole sale catalogue, only need to be a pretty girl, if you are talking about for example victoria secret on the other hand, it require some skill that is effective in making people want to buy cloth you are modeling.
Because been a celebrity don't need to be educated, the character varies greatly, there are good people and bad people and there are educated and uneducated, there are people like Arnold Swarzwagon and Roger Morgan that can be a governor or a President and there are people like Britney Spear who is just a complete lost case or Lindzy Lohan, which is obviously self destructive.
