   Why does my cat caterwaul in the evenings and early morning? And climb closets too?
   
   I first thought this was a phase, when I first moved to my new apartment, over a year ago. Now it's a constant pain the butt. My cat Wylie bangs on the closet to get in, which isn't not allowed, and caterwauls when I go to sleep at night, and then early in the morning. I tell him to stop by saying no and slapping hands. But sometimes it's never enough to get him to stop for good! Any ideas?

   If he isn't fixed get him neutered. If he is neutered get rid of him and get another cat.

   you could try buying him a a cat wheel, could be he needs exercise. I Have one for my cats and they use it all day and night. It is worth the investment and great for your cat's health.

   He'll probably need to be coaxed into using it but that's not hard if he likes to chase cat toys, feathers etc. on the end of a stick and string.

   He's 16 years old and been neutered before I got him. (He was originally my ex-SIL's and brother's cat, a decade ago.) He does live with his brother Marshall who doesn't do it as much. As for a cat wheel, I'll consider it.

      Paula, he's been neutered a decade ago and is also an adult senior male.  I have no plans to get rid of him. I just wish he would stop making noise at night and early morning.

      Oh heck, Kristen, at 16 you're gonna have to get a wheel chair for the wheel!!  Poor baby is having a tough time with aging.  I know how he feels.

      Me too, not a night goes by you won't find me caterwauling and trying to get out of the closet. They let me out during the day.

      Somehow, I don't have a single problem believing that, T.  Kudos to UR wife who bought herself a pr of earplugs & a padlock 4 the closet door.  Smart lady.

   I'm assuming "Wylie" is not neutered and is looking for love in all the wrong places and ways....not to mention driving you batty.
   Typical male, Kristen.....having a loud obnoxious tantrum until he gets what he wants.  I wouldn't go so drastic as to "get rid of" a cat that you love....but definitely, as my mother would say, "De-Nut the SOB!"  (Warning: This should not be done for human males......those, you can just get rid of!! LOL)
   More often caterwauling occurs when they're in rut.......as opposed to human males simply BEING IN A RUTT.
   Tsad suggests a cat wheel... this MIGHT work, but only if you add a female he can chase around the wheel for hours on end.........Again, for human males this is FOUR wheels on a Corvette~~~WELL WORTH THE INVESTMENT.  He'll never HOWL for you again.
   Good Luck.......Oops!  I just see that you wrote he IS neutered.  Here we have proof that some males just NEVER give up!  Live with it, girlfriend.

      Paula, I guess I will have to deal with it. TSAD, it's not aggressive and is healthy at 10 pounds right now. Anxiety? Hmm. I'm not sure about the vet just yet.
