How can an ex-Christian still speak in tongues after losing faith / belief in their religion?

This is a real question that I think people look up every once in a while - I did. That is where I found this YouTube video about a (sorry, very mad) ex-Pentacostal Preacher doing a rant about how he can still speak fluently in 'other tongues': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRXW5ioxXUY I was just starting to do more research on the subject, because I am the same way - although I'm not nearly as mad, ha! I've read so much rambling about the subject - but, maybe readers will have more of an answer; because it is a curious manifestation that more than a few former-Christians wonder about.

WOW!  I know that you aren't going to believe this, but this is what WORD says!  "I will NEVER leave you are forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5)!  You see why I LOVE JESUS?  You may have left HIM, but HE "never" leaves us, once we "Believe!"

Sin is not what sends us to HELL, "Unbelief" is!  Hebrews 3:12;19 says, "Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of "unbelief," in departing from the Living God. (v19) So we see that they  could not enter because of "unbelief!"

We now live under "The New Covenant," and GOD said under "The New Covenant," in Jeremiah 31: 34 "...for I will forgive their iniquity, AND I WILL REMEMBER THEIR SIN NO MORE."  Did you hear that?  All we have to do is "Repent" and HE "remembers our sin no more!"  Who could not love a GOD like that?  Not to say that sin is acceptable unto GOD, for there are consequences for sin but if we "Believe" and have "studied" His Word, due to "conviction," we will not sin! If we do, we feel awful; hurry and run to Him for "Repentance!"

Unfortunately, we are flesh (body), with a "soul" which is sinful (mind, will, & emotion (Ephesians 6:10-18), being changed (with the HELP of the Holy Spirit; II Corinthians 3:18) so our "spirit" can "reconcile" unto Him (II Corinthians 5:18-19) which He afforded us by the "Shedding of His Blood"!  JESUS took ALL of our sins on HIMSELF on the Cross!  Who could not love JESUS?

If we need the Holy Spirit to HELP us and JESUS said in John 14:26 "...he will teach you ALL things...," don't you "believe" He will "teach us"  not to sin?  I BELIEVE!  I've evidenced HIM in my life!  HE has taken things from me (and I didn't "try") that would have been impossible for mere-man!  WORD "convicts!"

This is why I keep asking everyone to "WAIT" in accordance with His last commandment to the disciples prior to ascension into heaven.  Acts 1:4 "...but "WAIT" for "The Promise" (John 14:26; 16:13) of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me."  Did we not "hear from Him" in John 14:26 and 16:13?  Without the HELP of the Holy Spirit, we "try" to "do" ourselves (as we "try" to keep New Year's Resolutions), become "disgruntled" after we "fail" and, consequently, backslide from a "Powerless Religion!"

Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by GRACE (The Cross) are ye saved through faith (BELIEF); and that NOT of YOURSELVES; it is the GIFT of God; (v9) Not of "WORKS," lest any "man" should "boast!"

    Who could NOT love JESUS?

    Blessings!

WOW! You're seriously 'off' about me, Norine. I did not say ANYTHING about 'not loving Jesus' - I said I lost my religion. There is a HUGE difference, sweetie. smile I know many ex-C's become atheists or some other spiritually-radical thing. I didn't.

Who said you "Didn't love JESUS?"  I only asked the Q!
U NEVER "loose ur religion!" Did u read Heb 13:5? "HE NEVER LEAVES U!"
All u have to do is "repent" (Acts 2:38)!

No need for repentance. I'm FINE. God is not 'missing' from my life - I'm just wondering about this issue cuz its weird. I don't trust it. It doesn't feel right - and it never has. I've heard of peeps losing this 'ability' but I have not - why?

Romans 11:29 "GIFTS are without repentance!"
Why do u not want POWER to heal sick, raise dead, walk on water?  Matt 14:12-14! "Greater thgs than these u will do!"
Aren't u the 1 who work w/kids? MY GOD! What an influence u could have on them!

I am suspicious of 'tongues' because WHY would God need a 'heavenly language' to speak thru us - especially one that we don't understand? Words have power. What am I saying, where is it going and what is happening with it? He has more effective ways.

It's an angelic language.  God has many ways that we don't understand.

I totally believe that it is an 'angelic language' - but, does Satan not come as an Angel of Light? Of course this feels 'real' - it also feels 'wrongish'. Why would God need to speak to/thru us in this way when he can speak directly through us?

      Read I Corinthians Chapter 14!
I KEEP SAYING "THIS IS A "SPIRITUAL" JOURNEY!"  Your "spirit" has a relationship w/GOD & you're BLESSED!  I Cor 14:2 "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto GOD..."  How many does

As usual, you're not listening, Norine. You know everything. What in the world do we need God for when we have you?

      Read ALL of I Cor Chptr 14!  GOD IS A HEART GOD (v25)!  It's a language btwn u & God (I Cor 14:2;4;5;14;22)! Pray for prophecy (v5) & interpretation (v4)! Tongues r a sign for them that BELIEVE NOT(v22) & why remains!

Just because you lost your religion does not mean you are no longer a Christian.  Some question whether Catholics are saved because they worship Mary and the Saints.  Speaking in tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit.  The fact that you still have it says that God is still with you.

Did you notice the definition of a "Christian" in Scripture?  They did as those did AFTER "Acts" ( Day of Pentecost when Holy Spirit came; Acts 2:2) and "continued in the apostles' doctrine" (Acts 2:42)!
      Religion does not tell TRUTH!

In the back of my mind - I do consider myself to be a 'true Christian'. But since I no longer believe in 'salvation', Christ's birth story or a separate 'holy spirit' - I can no longer identify with the mainstream of that religion.

      He's ALWAYS "WAITING!"
      Remember "GIFTS" are w/o "repentance"
Rm 11:29 "For the gifts & calling of God are without repentance!"
That's why u can still speak in tongues!!!
      I tell EVERYONE "TRUTH!"
      Eph 1:18!
      Blessings!

U have "unbelief" (Heb 3:12) & haven't "repented" (Acts 2:38), Why then do u blv "not lost?" U "no longer blv in salvation, Christ's birth story or (I blv not separate too) holy spirit? Why not lost?
