How many people including yourself, actually carry cash these days? What do you use cash for?
It's very rare that I carry any cash now. I get points for every dollar I spend on my credit card, so I just use it to pay for everything. Once a month, I pay the credit card bill. This saves me 2 to 5% on gas, utilities, groceries, and any other bill I need to pay. Why would I use cash now? I only carry my driver's license and my one credit card. That's it! I don't even need a purse anymore. I can't imagine carrying cash around these days.
I still carry cash. As far as I know, most people do. People have been making jokes about cashless societies for eons, but the only difference I've noticed is a couple years ago when I got traveler's checks to go to Oregon, I was told no one uses them anymore; they just go to the ATM. Imagine how expensive that gets, though!
I carry a little bit of cash, because my laundry service doesn't take credit cards. Because of the way my credit union ATM is set up, I can only take out increments of $20, and laundry is often between $40 and $50. That leaves me with some extra to carry around. I ask for change in ones, and use those to buy one lottery ticket each time I go to the grocery store. The ticket machine also doesn't take credit cards. I also use those dollars for tips if I go out to eat, because I like to tip my server in cash rather than adding it to my credit card.
Your laundry is 40 or 50 dollars! Why don't you invest in a washer and dryer? I can't imagine spending so much on laundry. I used to tip in cash, but since i never have any, i quit doing that.
That's for a month's worth of laundry, and I don't own a washer/dryer because I hate doing laundry. Also, cost wise, it's cheaper to do drop off once a month than it is to pay for appliances, upkeep, water, detergent, softener and time lost.
I carry some cash but not a lot. Usually if I want to grab a quick snack in the cafeteria or sometimes I order some Avon for a co-worker and pay cash. Then when I pay on my store cards, I usually pay in cash
Girl, get those exorbitant store cards paid off! They charge way too much interest. But i do understand the cash for small meals and drinks on tthe run.
I know. I usually buy something and then get it paid off within the month. Mainly kohl's when they have sales
I use cash for everything other than on-line purchases. I prefer the anonymity of cash transactions. That's the same reason I don't use the "customer loyalty cards" that many stores now require to get sales prices, such as the CVS "ExtraCare" card.
I don't use "store" cards because they are a huge rip off. But, organizing your life with one simple card is a wise money saving investment. How much do you spend going to get cash. You are "paying" for cash in trips to the bank.
It doesn't cost me anything get cash. I drive past the bank on my way home from work. I typically withdraw $500 at a time. As far as I'm concerned, there are only drawbacks to using cards. My privacy is worth more than the "convenience" of a card.
That's when I usually get cash-on the way home from work
I only take out cash if I know that I'm going somewhere that accepts cash only (the only recent examples I can think of are beer and food stands at events....haha). So I take out cash maybe 2-3 times per year. I find debit/credit much more convenient, especially now with tap cards that literally take one second to pay with. Plus you never run out/have to stop somewhere to take out more.
I've had maybe $5 in change floating around in my purse for ages in case I end up making a REALLY small purchase (like less than $2), but that's rare for me as I tend to shop for a bunch of stuff at once as opposed to going out to buy little things. Coffee goes on my pre-loaded card.
Having worked retail almost 10 years ago and then again last year, I definitely noticed a difference. Much less cash now than compared to then. I'd say cash transactions made up maybe 5%.

Do you carry cash? I have become so accustomed to using a debit card for everything that I never have cash with me when I need it!

How many credit cards do you have?
by Susan Reid 13 years ago
JP Morgan Chase is considering capping debit card transactions to $100 or even $50. It's all about fees they charge per transaction, currently $.44 and proposed to be slashed by Congress to $.12.That's a big hit for banks, yes.But after years of "training" us to swipe our debit cards...

Try and refrain from using a credit card for any purchases that are not a necessity. Things want should he paid in full to avoid getting stuck in ungodly amounts of debts. I learned this lesson a little late but I did learn it ha. Try to be smart with your money. Also try to look for coupons online...

If you pay off credit cards by getting a loan out, aren't you in the same position still?Maybe a loan won't have interest increase like credit cards, but what is the best way to get out of this situation for good?
