    Are you right or righteous?

What do you think is more important for a follower of Christ to be, right or righteous? Why do you say this and what scripture do stand on to back it up?

As I've told ALL before, "I BELIEVE" every WORD of GOD and have "FAITH" in "EVERYTHING HE HAS SAID" and for that reason, the world is mine!  Thank you JESUS!

It's 3'Oclock in the morning, and that's when GOD speaks to me!  I opened the Bible to find the Scripture to answer your question and it fell on Hebrews 11:6 "But without "FAITH" it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to GOD must "BELIEVE" that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."  Hallelujah!  I praise you LORD!

In response to your question:  I feel that being RIGHTEOUS is more important as a follower of Christ.  Was HE not?  Are we not to "follow in HIS footsteps?"

The Scriptures I stand on to back it up are Romans 3:22 "Even the righteousness of GOD which is by FAITH of JESUS CHRIST unto ALL and upon ALL them that BELIEVE: for there is no difference;" Romans 5:1 "Therefore being justified by FAITH, we have peace with GOD through our LORD JESUS CHRIST;" Philippians 3:9-14 "And be found in him, NOT HAVING MINE OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS, which is of the law, but that which is through the FAITH of CHRIST, the righteousness which is of GOD by FAITH: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.  Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: BUT I FOLLOW AFTER, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of CHRIST JESUS.  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: BUT THIS ONE THING I DO, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those thing which are before, I PRESS TOWARD THE MARK FOR THE PRIZE OF THE HIGH CALLING OF GOD IN JESUS CHRIST! "

Oh, stay with me JESUS!  Thank you JESUS! You said you'd "never leave me or forsake me" and I thank you!  Praise HIS HOLY NAME!

I know MOST Hubbers think I'm "crazy," but to be "crazy" for JESUS - "I count it ALL joy!"  They see me as "aggravation!"  However, Hebrews 12:11 says "No chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby."

My desire is - "None is LOST!"

I give WORD and don't have to worry that I'm "RIGHT" for GOD'S WORD is "PURE" (Proverbs 30:5)!
    Blessings

Thank you Norine, those are the scriptures I stand on as well for the righteousness I have in Christ through faith. But I disagree with you concerning the chastening part. That's the Holy Spirits job. We to love sinners/backsliders as Christ did.

"There is no judgment (chastening w/WORD) in their goings" (Is 59:8)! How can 1 get IT right if no one tells (Rm10:14;Acts 8:26-40)?

Proverbs talks a lot about dealing with "fools". They don't receive correction, cause strife and division, quick to run after evil etc. So what is the use scripture bashing them. Some just won't listen until the Spirit draws them.

Certainly in all my years I have never heard of the Holy Spirit guiding someone to chastise and be mean to people through threats. That is not since John. And certainly the HS would not instruct one to make people hate Christians.

I do not usual use scripture, although I may quote others from time to time. I grew up in Christianity.

'Right' is a word closely aligned to morals, and 'righteous' to piety, sacredness, holiness...sanctity. Spirituality is above the moral law. Again, if we are always right, in a spiritual sense, then we are either Saints or on the verge on Sainthood. So the journey generally allows for error as that's how we learn to be stronger in adversity.

I am neither 'right' nor 'righteous' but I am a God-seeker with beginners mind. Eager to learn, to long, yearn, cry inwardly for a Higher or Greater Truth. Hope this helps.

As a "God Seeker," you use other means than the HOLY SPIRIT to get there, you'll find out, you sought the wrong god!
You "grew up in Christianity" & left to "use your own brain" which will send you to HELL (Prov 3:5)!

The two are not an either/or proposition. You can be both correct and moral, speaking the truth and on the right side of things regardless of the situation.
I think your question rises for situational ethics, which Christians should mostly reject because EVERYTHING becomes acceptable when you say there are no absolute rights and wrongs.
After all, most people doing evil have good excuses for it, even if it is "good = follow your heart, and this feels good".

    1. Blessed Hill profile image60
Blessed Hillposted 7 years agoin reply to this

That's a very good philosophical answer. There are absolute rights and wrongs or else we would never have definitive morals and values. But the grace of God makes us "right"  even when we are wrong which encourages righteous living.

By my own merit, I am neither.

Being right to me means nothing if that fails to bring someone else closer to Christ. After all, there are many things that are lawful (and thus I may be "right") but that correctness is neither is profitable to others or builds them up. (I Corinthians 10:23).

I am not righteous at all. The only one who is righteous is Christ, and His righteousness is imputed to me (c.f. Romans 4:3, 5:17; I Corinthians 1:30).

1John 3:4-10  Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin. No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him. Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.

    Answer: Righteous
