What do you think of the stalemate between the Reps and Dems in confirming Trumps cabinet?
It appears Democrats are planning to vote against Trump's appointees. Is this a good strategy? What will come of it?
Marcy, we should all be concerned with it. The democrats in congress not only said that they will resist president Trump for the next 4 years, they urged the people to resist to the max. Don't really remember the word, but max will do. Congress is the legislative branch of the US government, and if they are going to resist for the next 4 years. We the people will have to pay the price. Presidents GW Bush, and Barack Obama left the country on life support. The difference today from 2008 is the we had the margin of the bubble. But the bubble has been gone for 8 years, and we barely have a scab over the economy.
So the people that are rooting for president Trump and the republicans to fail, are going to watch their own defeat as well. And the 2020 president and congress will be dealing with a country that will be vulnerable to being taken over by any number of enemies because they will be too weak to defend any and all attacks.
We have had decades of division, and remember divided we fall. It is like the scorpion and frog story. The scorpion stings the frog while the frog is taking them across the river.
I think that the deeper reason the democrats in congress are not making the Trump appointee confirmation is because these confirmations would result in the last bastions of Obama supporters in the government to be drained by the Trump people.
Trump needs to have his own people and have them choose their own people because Trump is not going to keep the Obama plan. That is not why he was elected president.
So the long answer it is not a good strategy, but one that will adversely affect the 18 democrats in congress that come up for reelection in 2018. Interesting that the democrats are doing what they claimed the republicans were doing during the last 8 years. But president Obama had free reign in his first 2 years, and he passed Obamacare.
What he should have been doing was helping the victims of the real estate bubble. Instead pres Bush and pres Obama not only bailed out the companies responsible for the economic failure, Obama watched the bailout money go to the execs of those companies as 7 figure bonuses. They claim they were key people, how key when they let the company fail. Meanwhile the banks with the bailout money wouldn't lend it even to other banks. So the victims lost their homes while the execs got a bonus. Freddie Mac and Fannie May were also responsible for the failure, and FRB. Party loyalty is also responsible. del if u wish
Democrats should resist because it is obvious that our new president has selected people that are very much a part of the "establishment" the very people that he said that he would go against during the campaign. Trump will not "drain the swamp" as he said that he would do. Just like Republicans tried to obstruct Barack Obama in his years in office, the Democrats should do the same. They should block anything that goes against American ideals. This Muslim ban executive order that he wrote is against everything that the US is known for. Even former Vice President Dick Cheney understands this. But this new guy obviously is REALLY out of touch with how our government should work. I say to the Democrats: I am proud of you for standing up to this clueless new guy of ours whom I won't even mention his name because he has been a bad example for this representative democracy of ours. Voting against these appointees will show patriotism and the fact that this new guy can't do whatever the heck he wants. There are rules to follow.
Ara, what do you know about America and what it stands for. What is your definition of what it is. And it is not a Muslim ban. These 7 countries are out of 47 countries that have Muslims in it. A Muslim ban would have included all these countries.
Let's just agree to disagree here. It is a Muslim ban no matter what our so-called President says. He is a good show man I will tell you that.
Ara, No, there are no facts to indicate a Muslim Ban, none. It is a vetting of the countries that are in terrorist infused countries causing the people in it to be in danger. But, the terrorists have vowed to infiltrate them. We need to vet them
