   Fundamentalism is encouraged in many religions. "Extreme" is a matter of opinion.
   Extremism / fundamentalism in and of itself isn't dangerous. Fundamentalist Amish get looked at funny as they ride past in horse driven buggies, but they aren't hurting anyone. Extreme Jains and Buddhists make sure they don't even step on an ant. No one is hurt. Fundamentalist Muslims blowing people up to scare others into submitting to Islamic dictates per the words of the Koran and example of Mohamed killing those who would not convert to Islam are doing what the faith allows but civilization should not tolerate.
   In short, the fact that someone is extreme or devout is irrelevant - the actions they take are what matters.

      Hi Tamara Wilhite. I'm from Singapore and I'm a Muslim. All the words you say about Islam is not true. Let me quote your sentence on "Extreme Jains and Buddhists make sure they don't even step on an ant". Same for Islam. *to be continued *

   Whatever name you give it, it still springs from the Heart of man. We spend so much of our time looking out! Probably because it seems to be easier, a quick fix. What is needed is the transformation of Consciousness from within. Have I conquered my greed, lust, attachments, ego, anger? Do I feel fear or am I insecure?
   
   All weaknesses are inherent (inside us) and hence all scriptures prescribe a way to progress. Hence prayer, soulful service, gratitude, meditation, humanity to man....
   
   Loosely speaking, Religion is the science that teaches us how to know God. We relate to it from where we are, that is to say, our level of Love or purity from within. We really won't find this by focusing on the outside; on what others do. We are spirit beings and must feed the spirit.
   
   Extremism in a loose sense, can sometimes be that which binds us. Seers speak of a middle way.

   Nope. First and foremost, I'm a Muslim. And Islam teaches us to respect other religions. And ALLAH SWT says in the Holy Quran. Just a little quote from the Holy Quran "if any one killed a person, it would be as if he killed the whole of mankind; and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole of mankind…” - The Holy Quran (Chapter Five, Verse 32).
   
   By reading and understanding it, all of you can see that Islam doesn't support violence.
   
   Let's throw the hate. Don't set boundaries between colours. Let's live happily with laughter and joy. 
   
   And to (tamarawilhite)  I will continued on my last comments to you, this is a story of Prophet Sulaiman AS (King Solomon)  One day Solomon gathered his army, which had different battalions of men, jinns, birds, and animals. He marched them to the country of Askalon.
   
   While they were passing through a valley, an ant saw the approaching army and cried out to warn the other ants: "Run to your homes! Otherwise, unaware, Solomon and his army might crush you!" Solomon, hearing the cry of the ant, smiled. He was glad that the ant knew him to be a prophet who would not intentionally harm Allah's creation. He thanked Allah for saving the ants' lives.
   
   Islam is a very peaceful religion. I'm not angry on the accusations and insult on Islam but I'm very sad. Please read the Holy Quran and understands it. You will know the true meaning of Islam. Every verse in Holy Quran are direct words from ALLAH SWT.

   Let me say this.  It doesn't matter what is allowed in any religion.  People are going to do what they're going to do and a religion isn't going to stop them.  I've spoken with people from other religions more than once on this topic.  We all agreed on one thing.  The battle of doing right isn't between religions, it's between good and evil.  If a person is good, he will look at the Bible or Koran or other holy book and see how he is commanded to do good in the name of his religion.  If a person is evil, he will use the words in his holy book to justify doing evil. So when someone sees a Christian, Muslim, Hindu or others doing an evil deed, it is because the person is driven by evil desires they have inside.  When you see people from these religions working together and being peaceful with one another, it is because these people are motivated by the good inside them.  We may need to look past a religion and focus more on the people.
