Ads Cancelled??? WTH???

   In today's email (11-26-18) I received the following from Google:
   
   "Your Google Ads account was cancelled due to no spend
   
   Your Google Ads account XXXXXXXXXXX was automatically cancelled on 11/26/18, as it has not spent for over 15 months. Learn more about inactive account cancellation.
   
   Ads will stop showing within 24 hours of account cancellation. If you have money left in your cancelled account, we'll refund it to your payment method within 4 weeks.
   
   If you’d like to reactivate your account, you can do so by signing into Google Ads account. Learn more about reactivating cancelled accounts.
   
   Thanks,
   
   The Google Ads Team"
   
   I hope this isn't regarding the AdSense program here on HP; if so, this makes no sense at all, because I know ads are being placed all the time.
   
   I don't even remember if or when I ever signed up for this on my (badly neglected) blog, years ago.  If that's the case, it's well over the 15 month period they reference; more like 2 or 3 years. 
   In any case, I still don't understand; if you sign up for their ads, it was/is my understanding that they place the ads, not the person who signed up; therefore, it should be automatic, hence no cancellations for 'no spend.'

      Glad you posted this as I had the same email a week or so back.  I felt concerned but then figured it was because I was only for people who pay for ads so I just ignored it.

      I received the same email. I didn't worry about it, tho because I knew it referred to my website I took down a few years ago. Just to be sure I compared the account number they showed to my HP Google Adsense account number. They're not the same, so all's good.

     • A user with administrative access to the account requested to cancel the account.

   As Beth says, this is not a fake email even though it does read like one. I received it a few weeks or months ago too. It's your Google Adwords account and not your Google Adsense account. So your HP ads and blog earnings will not be affected by this.
   
   P.S: Do not ever click links in emails if you are not sure. I wasn't so I directly logged into the Google Adwords account to look it up and saw the message there.

   Unless you are placing paid-for ads to market your blog or your own website, then you don't need a Google Ads account.
   
   NB. This is a completely different account from Google AdSense which is what you need in order to earn with HubPages.

   I just sent them an inquiry via their 'contact us' form.  Lot of good that will do, I'm sure!  (heavy sarcasm).
   
   I just wanted to double check that it had nothing to do with AdSense.  Honestly, I have no recollection of signing up for anything involving the placing of ads (where I had to spend money to do so) anywhere at all.
   
   That's not something I would do; I have nothing to advertise, so why would I spend money to place ads?  Makes no sense at all.

   I'll probably get that email as well. I setup an AdsWords (not AdSense) account years ago. In the internet wild west days, it was a common practice back then to advertise an article that had your AdSense ads on it. The idea was to make more money on the AdSense ads than you spent on the AdsWords account. There's even a name for this practice, but I've forgotten what it was. At any rate, I haven't done that in years. Besides, I heard that Google isn't thrilled with the practice and it really wasn't worth the bother anyway. I'll be glad to get the email; it'll be nice to get the $20 I still have in the account

    I know what this is. If you ever used Google Adwords Keywords tool, you will have an Adwords account. I haven't used mine for a while as there are better alternatives out there.

             I tired ubersuggest - based on a recommendation from one of your SEO hubs. Maybe I was to critical, but it seemed only so-so.

                I prefer SEMRush, but when it comes to free keyword research tools Ubersuggest is a lot better than the Adwords tool. Maybe the best free resource out there, but that's my opinion.

          ???  Using Adwords Keywords didn't require me to sign up to BUY ads, which is what this sounds like...At the time I used it, EONS ago, when I first started writing here, it was all free, and much more user-friendly than it is now.

             No, but it gave you an Adwords account. You had to have it to use the service. It's no big deal now there are better ones around.

    I was puzzled by my email too. Then it suddenly dawned on me! Back in the day, before hubpage ads, we had other ads that we no longer use? Can't remember if it was google ads or amazon, but as we now do it a different way its probably the old ones closing. Am I wrong? not sure if I am talking sense or not! LOL!

    I knew about the existence of Adwords and got many emails requesting me to signup with an offer of free Rs.2000 AdWords if I subscribe for a minimum paid account of Rs.2000 but I never cared about their emails.
