CNN said it so it must be official, Democrats agree there is a border crisis.
https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/16/politics … index.html
Pres Biden has a plan, he's building more border walls.
Biden administration working on more fixes to Trump border wall construction.
Title 42 was trashed as inhumane but now Democrat voices are arguing for its continuance.
Is it safe to say "I told you so"? Will the anti-Trump Democrats now excoriate Pres. Biden as they did Pres. Trump?
GA
My prediction? That Democrats will investigate and discover that it is all Trump's fault - that if he had not overthrown the government on Jan 6 the border would be fine and no one would be crossing it.
Sure.
Global Compact on Migration.
There will not be a closing of the border.
An interesting tidbit I heard about the other day:
Hunter Biden Owned a Financial Stake in a Digital Banking Platform for Undocumented Migrants, introduced its founder to Joe Biden while the Company Received Mexican Government’s Endorsement.
Documents unearthed from Hunter Biden’s hard drive also revealed that the president’s son held an 8.25 percent stake in ePlata through his company Owasco LLC, though it is unclear if he still retains the position.
The transactions on these platforms constitute a massive industry worth over $150 billion annually in the U.S. alone and harm America’s economy, as the sizable sum leaves the country untaxed.
Contrary to traditional bank regulations, ePlata appears to make sending and receiving money easy for users, including illegal aliens, given its lax identification requirements for signing up.
under Mr Trump and President Biden alike, Title 42 was a CDC Band-Aid. It's not a policy that addresses needed immigration reform. Folks need to stop making this partisan and start demanding that our Congress comes together to put forward legislation. It's frustrating that everything comes down to drawing a battle line and taking our respective sides regardless of how little sense that makes. As long as people are happy and satisfied with doing that it lets Congress off the hook for doing any real work.
Have you read about the wall that the Israelis built to keep out the Palestinians? Why do the Democrats in the US think that would not work in the US?
Because Trump wanted to extend the wall we already had started and anything Trump wanted or did is evil, wrong, and will not work.
There is no battle because it is factual that Nancy Pelosi can present any suggestion/bills she wants for consideration. And just about anything she would bring forward would pass.../ They have a majority they have now for two years.
So, your argument that both sides have drawn a battle line seems nonsensical to me. If legislation was brought forward the Republicans would certainly look the fools and obstructionists if they bucked a common-sense solution to what is going on at the border.
The fact is they all know next week we will see a gigantic mess occur, and Congress has sought to ignore what is coming.
I am not satisfied with this Congress in any respect. The Republicans have a cold chance in hell of getting any bill across Pelosis desk. And it's very apparent the Democrats in Washington want to pack in as many migrants as they can.
This crap about blaming Congress --- ya got what you voted for. And all the spin will not change that fact. This border problem is not new, although the left media is pushing that it is.
I would think the mid-terms spoke loudly --- Ameican either are not aware of what is happening in the country or are more than fine with it. Either way, makes me realize our problems go pretty deep, and they are societal. Scary shit
At any rate, we can all watch the show next week at the border, wring our hands, and then go to tucking it all away with silly excuses. Yuck
Not a chance it would pass the Senate. How does one, anyone, overcome the 60 votes threshold? I also don't believe that is it solely her job to propose all legislation. How many do we have in Congress? But actually, quite a few bills have been proposed in the house. Obviously NONE went anywhere. These aren't excuses. This is the reality. Until we have elected officials who are willing to work across the aisle literally nothing will get done.
Not sure it has anything to do with passing the Senate. The point is the House leader should do her job, and request solutions to next week's problem. It is more than apparent the Federal Government needs a bandaid to stop the pending problem of 42 being dropped. She certainly could do her job, and if the Senate feels her request is something they can't pass --- well it's on them at that point. At this point, I would like to see our Government wheel move as it should. We send these people to Washington. It will be up to us to point the blame. Should it be directed at House Speaker or the Senate? At this point, I see the blame lies with Pelosi. If she presents nothing it's all on her.
It is up to her to promote the House representatives to come up with solutions and needed laws. None went anywhere because they offered no solutions just more incentives for migrants to make their way to the border. Like Biden's plan. It covered nothing but suggestions on how to make the process across our border smoother, and more efficient.
Nothing about following even our current immigration laws.
Again have you looked at all of the bills that have been brought to the house? On both sides of the aisle. And this has everything to do with the Senate because if none of these can pass the 60 volt threshold we have nothing. No policy. These people are supposed to find common ground and compromise. That's their job and none of them are doing it. There is no one person in Washington who's going to single-handedly get anything done. It's ludicrous that we let administration after administration for decades to make this a continual blame game instead of coming together for real action. Americans are more interested in partisan BS than anything. It's like a past time.
What Bills? This one perhaps Summary: H.R.1177 — 117th Congress (2021-2022)
Sponsor: Rep. Sánchez, Linda T. [D-CA-38]
https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-con … -bill/1177
Shown Here:
Introduced in House (02/18/2021)
U.S. Citizenship Act
This bill establishes a path to citizenship for certain undocumented individuals. The bill also replaces the term alien with noncitizen in the immigration statutes and addresses other related issues.
Specifically, the bill establishes a new status of lawful prospective immigrant. This status shall be available to an applying noncitizen who meets certain requirements, including being continually present in the United States from January 1, 2021, and passing background checks. After at least five years with this status, an eligible noncitizen may apply for and receive permanent resident status.
The bill also provides permanent resident status to certain applying noncitizens, specifically for eligible noncitizens who (1) entered the United States as a minor, (2) were eligible for temporary protected status or deferred enforced departure on January 1, 2017, or (3) worked a certain amount of agricultural labor in the five years prior to applying.
Among other things, the bill also
redefines for immigration purposes the term conviction to exclude convictions that have been expunged or vacated,
requires the Department of State to implement a strategy to advance reforms in Central America and address key factors contributing to migration from the region to the United States,
requires the State Department to establish refugee processing centers in Central America,
requires Customs and Border Patrol sectors and stations to have a certain number of employees with certain qualifications such as paramedic training,
generally prohibits religious discrimination in granting or denying immigration benefits, and
establishes grant programs for providing training and services to immigrants
Or this one, Rep. Roybal-Allard, Lucille [D-CA-40] --- H.R.6 - American Dream and Promise Act of 2021

Summary -- To authorize the cancellation of removal and adjustment of status of certain aliens, and for other purposes.
Or better yet there is this ---
Congress working to strike last-minute immigration dealshttps://www.washingtonpost.com › politics › 2022/12/05
Dec 5, 2022 — The House will vote on two immigration bills this week that would phase out the per-country CAPS on employment-based immigrant visas and provide ... https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics … ion-deals/
So perhaps you can produce a bill that you feel will help fix our current overflow of migrants.
Do any of them look like legitimate fixes to our immigration problems? I like the one where they hope to take away the CAP.
You left out all the Republican sponsored bills. I believe Andy Biggs has a few. It doesn't really matter what any of them begin with. They just need a starting point. I don't think any Bill makes it through Congress intact. The point is bipartisanship cooperation and compromise. We need at least a few who can co-sponsor a bill from each party. If you who are willing to work across the aisle on a give and take. I certainly don't expect it from any of the fringes but hopefully our moderates and Independents can come together and make some sense of this. I think we still have a handful in Congress who are willing to put petty partisanship aside.
Biggs's bill was very straightforward forward he proposed that Government was to enforce the immigration laws that are presently on the books. We have laws, but they have not been followed for decades now. Perhaps Andy Biggs bill should have been considered. It is clear Democrats are not willing to follow the current immigration laws, and the republicans are not willing to open our borders and invite all to come... The bills the Dems have offered, as well as Biden's bill only, cover making it more efficient, to bring in migrants, more incentive, nothing more.
Why in the world should the republicans work on these kinds of destructive bills?
There is no middle grown the two parties have different idea's on what is needed in regard to immigration laws.
And there you have said it. Democrats are not interested, not in the slightest amount, in limiting or cutting the number of border crossings.
Only in bringing more foreign citizens in the hopes that at least some of them will vote Democrat in an election; a hope that is a foregone conclusion.
Any of the 435 representatives in the house can sponsor a bill at any time. I see that we have had some sponsored on both sides. I'd say we better start seeing some action
I believe the end game is that they hope to get total control of Congress, and bing, anything goes. I mean common sense should tell us, they have a plan and reason for letting the border remain wide open.
All is getting worse, I can't imagine where this all will lead.
Well Republicans have the lead in the house in less than a month so I assume we can consider this problem solved then? After all of their complaining and condemnation, I'm expecting big things to happen quickly. Especially since this seems to be Republicans number one issue.
I am also expecting the New House to produce some solutions to many issues. It would seem that immigration should be the number one priority.
They're still going to have that 60 vote threshold in the Senate to overcome. Politicians of the past have shown us that it can be done but today's bunch just don't seem to be as skilled at dare I say.... The art of the deal.
I realize that. However, I look and read bills that are offered up. I give credit if they are suitable, and truely appear to be written with the American people in mind. So, I don't blame congress for the failure of getting bills passed, I blame individual representatives, as well as political parties for bills that are not what I feel are geared toward making America a better place.
In a previous comment, I offered you examples of Democratic proposed immigration bills. These bills were no more than an extended invitation to intense migrants to come to our borders. I am so very pleased the Republicans canned these bills. They in my view were non-sensical and would have done more to make the immigration problem far worse.
So, let's wait and see what the Republicans present in the way of immigration reform, and what parts of the problems they address. The Democrat's bills address improving the process of making all quicker, and smoother to come into America. I don't feel promoting open borders with better quicker entrance. Gosh, I wish some would take the time to read a few of these immigration bills that the Dems have offered.
I agree, I don't think many of the Representatives are suited for their jobs. But, they were voted in. And this new bunch, in my view, many are very flawed individuals.
More so in agreement with Faye. Right or left boader policy don't really work I've toured 6 continents and don't find Americans any happier than most third world countries like Mexico. Mexico even seems happier. Maybe it's because I don't like borders and Mexican government is not over controlling. . Besides
a wood latter only cost $5.
The Title 42 reference was only an illustration, not a detail, and not a policy critique. Immigration policy reform nor the inaction of Congress were the point. It was simply an 'I told you so.'
We are going on seven years of Republican claims that the border is not secure and that a border wall would help, and Democrat rebuttals that yes, the border is secure and no, a wall won't help.
As CNN says, 'now,' we have a border crisis because the problem has gotten too big to deny.
On this issue, it turns out that we can believe our 'lying eyes'. If the wall additions, that Pres. Biden authorized, help it could be another "lying eyes' moment for Democrats.
GA
Interesting article, yet I think they have always recognized there was an issue. IMHO. After all its history dates back to what, at least 1986 when apprehensions were higher than in 2021? It's the ebb and flow of the blame game, isn't it?
They have as all of the congresses of the past avoided the issue like a plague for decades while relying on the administrations to come up with the newest and best band-aid, which proves to always be temporary while usually a failure at best in the end. Combine that with the legal world hindering progress such as with Title 42 as well as the Remain in Mexico program dueling with it.
I recommend both the Biden administration and today's congress and the new one soon arriving survey the below article to get an idea of what is happening with the border crisis since at least 2014 fueled by the complexities of Life in this so-called world.
Panic Attack
https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/hea … nic-attack
I am not wringing my hands on what should have been done in the past or making logical excuses about why not much (except Trump's bandaid) my concern is in the here and now, and the fact nothing is being done to help stave off the mess we will see the day 42 is canned. It so appears to me our society is one that looks backward, blames, and pretty much does not even consider the present, today, or near future.
Yes great reasons for Panic, is it not long overdue?
Facetiously, a band-aid is just that a band-aid. And, when ripped off one may hear, "Ouch".
"... is it not long overdue?" One could speculate since the Asylum and Immigration Act of 1996. The problem as I see it today is they are coming and the trend of from where has changed too. As to that related to cause and effect is a study in and of itself.
Odd the CNN would finally admitt a huge problem at the south border TWO YEARS into the crisis. According to biden and his low life ilk there is no problem at the border. biden and the liberal media low lifes are still a POS. biden should be in prison not in the WH.
I dont know if this is true, but the word here is people that want to go should hold off until the first week of January and Biden will start offering flights for people from Nicaragua directly to the US. His border crisis will be solved and it is going to be easier for people from Nicaragua, Guatemala, and south and central amercia. (Instead of going to Mexico and paying a coyote Biden will offer flights to the US, no one will be illegal, and in just a few short years they can vote.)
All I can say is, at this point, I can just about beleive anything. And you know what, he just might get away with something like that.
Very once sensible people are willing to look the other way.
Had not heard about the flights, but wouldn’t be surprised. Biden knows the border is wide open. By end of year, 5 million illegals will have crossed over. This administration wants them here so that can “vote” and keep the Democrats in power forever.
Basically, the U.S. is screwed.
I've always thought Americans and Mexicans where no better or worst than me. From my personal experience of having half my family being Mexican, it seems they are happier than us. Screw the politicians before they Screw us, would be a greater improvement.
Mexicans and people coming from Central and South America have been portrayed as criminals who cross the border only to live like kings off of our luxurious welfare system...even though in reality they don't qualify for assistance. Many Americans only believe what their chosen media tells them. Most media only gives one side and a lot of folks don't bother looking for the whole picture. They really prefer to stay locked in to their party line. They actually wear it like a righteous badge of honor. Many also like everything to be very simplistic, it's all viewed in extremes. No middle ground, no extenuating factors and most of all no solutions. They prefer pure blame. Critical thinking may cause your bubble to break and goodness knows we don't want that here.
No one that I know wants to move to the US for its welfare system. It really looks like a joke compared to most of the world, however there is a common belief that if you do move there and do not make it the US government is going to take care of you.
(That may or may not be true, but when comparing even minimum wage salaries, which down here is less than $200 a month, the risk seems worth the potential rewards.)
Almost no one here cares about which political group is manning the border, but it was well known here that when Trump was taking care of the border you were likely to be turned back or imprisoned, and now that Biden is in charge you will be welcomed with open arms.
"Republicans talk of 'chaos' at the border without Title 42 but don't have a better plan: Padilla"
https://www.aol.com/republicans-talk-ch … diate=true
What really sticks out about this Representative's sentiments is In regard to his -- "No. 1, they have yet to come forward with a plan of how to better handle this scenario," Padilla, D-Calif., who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee's immigration, citizenship, and border safety subcommittee, told ABC."
Neither have Democrats --- I must remind all It would be the House to submit bills, and solutions to be voted on --- factually the House has a Democrat majority and could pass a bill, and send it to the Senate. The Republicans have turned down two bills that the House sent them. Refuse to pass the bills. Both bills were nothing but suggestions that were written to make it more attractive for migrants to come to our border. The other is about legalizing Dreamers. One only needs to read the bills to realize they present no solutions to the border problems. There is nothing in these bills in regard to handling the huge influx of migrants that continue to come in daily, now for two years. The bills were designed to expedite entrance to the US, Nothing more.
"No. 2, they have not been willing to commit the additional resources that the departments and agencies say that they need to handle this big influx," Padilla said.
The resources mentioned in the two bills are more agents, to expedite entry into the Country and judges to expedite court hearings for migrants. It would seem we now have 5 million more migrants we have that need court dates. So, do any of these solutions sound like we are handling our immigration problems? Both bills were nothing but additions to Biden's original invite to come on down. Written to entice more migrants. Just a few perks to add to Biden's prior invitation.
Biden is in Delaware this weekend... And could care very little about what will happen this week at the border. He is not at all interested in the border, he has made that very clear.
And this Padilla, in my view, is a typical Democrat that blames others for his own inadequacy.

Maybe time for Americans to wake up to the fact Biden can not do
the job he was hired for. America has no one at the wheel.
It is a fact that illegal immigrants take up valuable resources that should be spent on American citizens. They are being give these valuable resources from the American tax payer.
There IS a legal way to enter the country. My relatives have done it for decades. Why should my relatives go through all the time, effort and expense to become legal citizens while others just waltz across the boarder with their hands out saying "Now take care of me. Your legal immigrants and citizens be damned."
Are democrats so dense they can't see how wrong this is?
It's obvious by the responses on this thread nobody seems to have had any first hand experience with the immigration system.
"El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser declares state of emergency ahead of Title 42 lifting
The mayor of El Paso declared a state of emergency Saturday ahead of Wednesday’s deadline to lift a COVID-era policy that is expected to result in more than 6,000 migrants crossing the border a day into an already overwhelmed city where hundreds are already sleeping on the streets.
“Our asylum seekers are not safe,” said El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser at a specially called press conference to announce the emergency measures. “We have hundreds and hundreds on the street and that’s not the way we treat our people.”
Temperatures have dipped into the 20s in the city, he said, and migrants who have been released into the city are sleeping on downtown streets.
“I want to make sure that people are treated with dignity,” Leeser said, adding that he made the decision to call a state of emergency after a conference call with federal, state and municipal officials. The city government is working with local non-profits that are helping newly arrived migrants travel to other parts of the country where many have family.
“We all talked about what was best for our community,” he said, adding that more than 1,500 migrants have been crossing the border daily into the city ahead of the Dec. 21 lifting of Title 42, a Trump-era policy that saw migrants sent back into Mexico."

Thank you for sharing. All you have shared is very evident. However, we have an administration that is more or less buying popcorn to watch the show from afar. Old Joe is nowhere to be heard of, most likely in Delaware.
Shaking hands with ghost and calling out names of dead people.
He is clearly showing signs of dementia. Just last week he made up a story about his dad and uncle. The story was to have taken place when Joe was VP. He claimed he obtained a Purple heart for his Uncle and presented it to him at a family function. The problem both his dad and uncle had been dead for several years before Biden ever became president.

I think every President should take a short course on history, science, arts and economics and so on after elected. Biden cannot even remember his own pass correctly. I Wonder is he will be able to lived to the next 2024 election.
Republican-led states asked the Supreme Court to keep the policy in place.
WASHINGTON — Chief Justice John Roberts on Monday placed a temporary hold on a lower court ruling that would end a Trump-era immigration policy implemented during the pandemic to allow asylum-seekers to be quickly turned away at the border.
The brief order came after Republican-led states asked the Supreme Court to keep the policy in place.
Roberts ordered that the federal district court ruling, which was due to go into effect Wednesday, be put on hold until the Supreme Court acts. He asked the Biden administration and groups challenging the policy to file a response to the states' request by Tuesday afternoon.
So, will the Biden administration respond as the Supreme Courts request tomorrow? Or will the White House ignore the request?
The Supreme Court needs to just step aside and Force Congress to actually do its job and work. Stop with the Band-Aids already and address the issues with legitimate immigration policy. If we get rid of title 42 we are back to the law of the land which is title 8. If this isn't working then they need to put their partisan heads together and come up with something, no excuses. This is stupid at this point.
They most certainly need to. It is absolutely their job and their duty. After decades of inaction and watching the problem grow to the point a President took illegal action to salvage even a little of our moral structure (the "dreamers"), does anyone in the country expect them to? I doubt it.
Yes, it is stupid. Once more, do people view our legislators as smart? I doubt that, too. We desperately need action, both as a country, as states and as individuals. Does Congress care what the country needs? I doubt that, too.
The Government is not supposed to be creative, leave that up to the citizens.
Ah, but this does not require creativity. Just common sense and an IQ above 60.
Yes, it appears to me, half the country is living with blinkers on., and are more than willing to believe anything without even a concern.
To avoid this 42 crisis congress could close the border to asylum seekers for a given time period child our overflow is handled. We are a sovereign country. Our present laws claim asylum seekers are to seek asylum in the first country they cross into, We have a CAP too... Our laws have blatantly been ignored. Congress could call this the State Of Emergency.
Being creative requires higher risk and sacrifice. Don't want the Government doing that with half my money, that's my job.
Agree... This is a problem Congress could have handled, at best the crisis that will occur when 42 is removed. This all makes me very curious as to why Congress is not meeting to handle this problem. I have come to expect this lack of interest to solve problems from congress.
