before i go to bake that German Chocolate cake, i wanted to ask a question about blogs and backlinking
which blogging sites are best for that?
i have an account at wordpress and an account at blogger but no blogs yet...i don't even want to begin creating any blogs or spending time on getting my blog site up and running until i know which once is best for promoting my hubs.
thank you. have a great day.
A lot of that depends on you and your ability (or desire) to get involved in programming. Blogger is a really simple, easy to use platform, but wordpress can provide a lot more options for customization if you want to do that sort of thing.
Although those extra features in wordpress can allow you to attract more readers and thus increase the value of the blog, I don't think one is inherently better than the other in simple terms of backlinks.
And stop teasing people with cake.
If you are looking to create a blog just for back links then wordpress or blogspot doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter for promotion, but Blogger allows you to have google ads on the pages, Wordpress you need to host your own server a month in order to have ads.

Care to share?
I use blogger and have 4 blogs. They also allow Chitika on your blogs, which is another revenue sharing site. On blogger you can put your amazon on there too...love their little widgets
wanna link to me? i finally got started over there.
also, for some reason when i put my url tracker in my profile address, it doesn't take me to my profile...if anyone can tell me what i am doing wrong i would appreciate it.
here is what i am doing:
http://hubpages.com/URLTRACKER/profile/cosette
did i put it in the wrong spot?
(hehe compu-smart;)
http://hubpages.com/_URLTRACKER/profile/cosette
maybe your missing the "_"
http://hubpages.com/_method/profile/sunforged
you can do it w/o worrying about the technique just by using link to this page which is at the bottom of every hubpage...including your profile
OMGSH
duh! sorry about that, i did forget the underscore. i'm laughing at myself. thank yoOo...
thanks visitmaniac. i guess i don't want to worry about servers and stuff - the easier the better. otherwise i would do WP. plus my adsense is already activated over there at blogger. again it was really easy!
thank you Marisa. i confess my motivation is to support my HP but i do believe in writing interesting blogs...plus i can write about stuff there without specific "adsense" or revenue-generating content in mind. a lot of times i have something i want to write about but know it would make a better blog than a hub.
Cosette, there's nothing wrong with writing a blog or blogs to support HP so long as you realise the implications.
You could support your Hubs by creating backlinks in other places, instead of your own blog. Maybe you're not sure how to do that, or you're not being very successful at it, so you think writing a blog is an easy solution.
But the links on your blog won't be of value unless your blog gets noticed by the search engines. So now you're faced with having to create backlinks to the posts on your blog, instead of to your Hubs. In other words, you haven't saved yourself any promotional effort but you've created more work in writing your blog posts.
That's what I was trying to say.
If you have an account at (wordpress.com) than any site that gives you more control will be better as your first blog/site
but if you spring for your own hosting (which you should) than wordpress is your best option
(blogger,weebly)
Like Misha said, they're all good. Hosting your own blog with your own domain gives you more control over how you want to monetize it but it's not always the best option for someone just starting out.
Then again, why put a lot of time an effort into a free blog to build up traffic and then switch to a self hosted blog? If you're serious about wanting to start a blog then have a plan for the blog in place first. Know what you want to blog about, what you want to gain from the blog and a course of action to take you in the right direction.
ok. all i want to do is use them for backlinks and build a following, and use my url trackers. thanks very much for your help you guys. Anarchy, i had never made a German Chocolate cake before..it was a lot more complicated than i thought. it was for my son's birthday. i used this recipe i found on Rachael Ray's site:
http://www.rachaelrayshow.com/food/reci … -frosting/
Trisha Yearwood makes it for her husband's (Garth Brooks) birthday and it came out REALLY GOOD! i saved you a slice
cosette, others may not agree, but I'm not convinced it's worth creating a blog just to get backlinks to your Hubs. In order for your blog to get noticed, you'll have to build backlinks to it, too, so not only will you have a lot of work to create a good blog, you'll still have to find other ways to get backlinks. And remember reciprocal links aren't worth having, so you can't link your Hubs to your blog and your blog back to your Hubs.
I wouldn't bother creating a blog unless you genuinely want to create one for its own sake.
since we're talking about blogs... has anyone had any experience with Live Journal?
From my exp. and others backing me up on this wordpress for some reason always ranks better then blogger. You can also set up your own custom blog with wordpress.org instead of wordpress.com you have more flexibility and customization with wrodpress.org.
Since you're sharing the cake (and recipe) I would be happy to link to you blog Cosette. I have a few blogs covering different subjects that I use for shorter posts and commentary. It's another way of pointing people to my hubs without really being extra work, since the content wouldn't be sufficient enough to justify a full hub.

I recently set up several blogger blogs to promote and provide backlinks for my hubs. I've been updating the blogs everyday so google will like them. Most of the outgoing links on my blogger blogs are to my hubs...will google dislike me for that?

... when most of your content is on Hubpages?I noticed that recently a few of the Hubpages regulars have gotten together on Blogger for a joint project. What are the advantages of using Blogger as an ancillary site, when you have most of your content on Hubpages?

So, quite recently some hubbers declared that they might venture out to create their independent, 100% 'all cash goes to the author's pocket' blogs using Blogger or WordPress. I just figured out, after checking some blogs on both those platforms, that they might face one little problem, it's...

I started using this blogging link to send my own hubs out of the hub nest. Soon, as I was going to make comments for my friends list I ended up reading other good hubs and decided to share theirs on my blogs too. Then the blog idea started evolving to help promote more reads and...
