Hmmm...It seems that we now have "Followers" as opposed to "Fans."  Why the change?

(Yes, I posted this on another forum)

I know how you feel. 'Fans' was so much better. 'Fans' is so much better.

You follow Jesus. You follow Ghandi or M.L.K. You don't follow someone you've read one article of and think it's 'ok' but won't really keep up with their stuff in the future.

We are individuals - not sheep.

It's sort of cool to see new stuff appear, little alterations etc. I think I agree with agvulpes on this one. We are followers if we really do read their hubs and like them.

If you post some mail still you will post FAN MAIL only not FOLLOWER MAIL..

I guess follower is trying to make it sound more specific. Fan tends to make you think 'friend' which is true in some cases, but not really the gist behind fanning. Becoming a follower of someone more so implies that you want to do exactly that, follow their work.

It's different and I'm not sure if I love the word choice, but i think it's a good change smile

It's only a transitional period to get us acquainted to the idea behind the whole thing... before they change it to stalkers altogether.

That's the thing though - people on this site aren't conventional friends. I though 'fans' was the perfect way of describing it - apparently I was wrong.

Thank you for all the comments.  We are reading them. We have some features that are going to be released soon that we thought it made more sense to use the term follow since there is more familiarity with the term follow on the web (with Twitter and Google Wave, for example) than fan.

We wanted one term that works for topics and people.  As an example, we felt it was better to follow the topic bladder cancer than to be a fan of bladder cancer.

Thanks again for all the feedback.
