Here, let me put this into the proper perspective for everyone!

I am an avid PLAYBOY Magazine Collector, my collection is 19 Years complete, effective this month.

If you're interested in the optimum size - 34-24-34.

What size is that in regards to clothing? I don't know, but I think it is a 2? Models tend to be within a specific range, as far as, height and weight requirements, besides the size I mentioned above. Models are generally about 5'8" - 6'3" and weight is to be between roughly lower end height would be about 110 pounds to the higher end height would be about 140 max.

    I hoped this helped.

But it's not realistic, that's the point.  The average breast size is a 36B, not 34 D, the average waist size is something akin to a size 6-8 and hips vary.

At 5'2 115lbs, I gained 8 lbs since September sad is perfect medically ideal for my height, 107 was under weight and teetering on 'too god damn skinny'.

Thinking a perfect woman must come in a package that doesn't exist naturally without barfing, surgery, and other eating disorders and non food diets is sending the wrong message.

You realize that 14 year old girls have issues with their bodies before they have even fully developed and have eating disorders because the teenage boys look at unrealistic woman and think all woman should look like that.

It's stupid!  Anyways, it depends on who you are and how you view woman.

It's a 5 size junior and if you buy ladies, it's a 4P or 6P (petite) depending on height.

It's my size, I've worn it all my life.  It's not a plank, it's not unhealthy and it is curvy.  I am 5'3" 110 pounds which is almost exactly perfect on the BMI.  I am NOT a size zero, I am a size 5.  I don't overeat and I do exercise.

Having your skin grow into a couch is what is unhealthy.  Haivng your feet cut off from diabetes isn't sexy.  Losing your breath walking from the living room the kitchen for more food isn't hot.

For a society allegedly obsessed with thinness, media must not have much of an impact because 70% of Americans are overweight, and 38% are morbidly obese.  One half of one percent are anorexic which is quite the rare condition.  Slender women are just that slender AND women; they are neither anorexic nor sickly and they do not look like boys.

Slender and attractive isn't unwomanly, height weight proportional women don't lose their periods, their teeth don't fall out and they aren't mentally ill (alhtough that can happen to people with eating disorders either direction) simply because they aren't obese. Bashing slender women doesn't make bigger women more attractive.

I think size "0" was created by the rapidly expanding problem in this country with obesity.  When the clothing manufacturers resized size 20's to be called 10's there had to be some new name made up for the size 5's who just have smaller bones and are height weight proportional and short.  What we ended up with is a size 0 that doesn't even exist just so that big women can pretend they are smaller without actually having to lose weight.  The media didn't create size 0.  Marketing clothing to a constantly increasing number of obese people in denial created size O.

Personally I've never even seen anything labelled a size O.  I still buy size 5.

I think all models should be above a size 0. Everyone looks to them. Guys want them. Girls want to be them. It causes health problems with us women... they should weigh more. Show off curves.

The only excuse for that would be if they are naturally thin and that size.

  7. rebekahELLE profile image85
    rebekahELLEposted 14 years ago

some women are built with a smaller frame, and are naturally thin.
if they eat well and take care of themselves, they look healthy.
it's the unhealthy ones often that are walking the runways, in print media, etc. they have to stay a certain size.
and of course, they are air brushed.

34-26-34 is not a size 2. it's at least a size 4-6. I am tall, 5'8", have been a size 4 for many years, and just recently had to buy size 6 in pants. I did model for a short while for artists.

all models should not be and are not a size 2.

Why are models so skinny? Is it to save money on fabric? Is it because of sex appeal? There are probably many reasons why models are preferred to be so tiny. As far as sex appeal type marketing go's, I have a hard time believing that many people think women that small (and often times unhealthy) are sexy. Maybe I'm wrong???

No way! I'm in the process of making a Hub about this actually. And the way that models show young women how they need to be skinny to be pretty. I don't understand why many girls look in the mirror and feel fat, they should feel beautiful whether what size they are.

  13. profile image53
    fashion addictposted 14 years ago

I totally agree with you, I myself am a size 6-8 and dont think that I should be considered to be a plus size model.  What is the point in having clothes on girls who basically disappear when they turn to the side. We should be encouraged to feel beautiful no matter what size we are.

  14. marcel285 profile image64
    marcel285posted 14 years ago

Models can be any size, providing they actually know how to model well. I'm 5'2, 50kg and iv'e done modelling.

To be honest, i prefer to see clothing being modeled on tall stick- figure girls. What they are supposed to be is a walking clothes hanger, i feel that girls with that body- type do the best job of actually displaying the garnment.

Models should not be idolized, they should be seen as a person whos just doing their job.

  15. marcel285 profile image64
    marcel285posted 14 years ago

In reality, the clothes that the models wear, usually look better on people whom have a bit more to their body than skin and bones, the models job is to DISPLAY the garnment.

Back to the origional question, 'should all models be a size 0?' NO. But the size 0 models shouldn't be attacked like this for their size either.

Regardless of whether they have an eating disorder or not. Because if they do, people harrassing them to put on weight, well it's certainly not going to help the situation. And if they are experiencing an eating disorder, that's their business.

I think that the standard of the modeling world, the one of rail thin female models, is a harmful one. I believe the influence of the Gay male designer is partly to blame. Gay men are attracted to the male form, rail thin females look like men. Skinny men sure, but it is the 'curves' of the female buttocks and breasts that make women attractive to straight men. Proof of this is simple, ask your man which he would rather have sex with, this (show him a picture) super skinny supemodel?  Or (next picture) this porn star? I think most straight guys will pick the 'curvy' porn star. But I may be wrong...

Because i find that bigger peeps are constantly accusing skinny peeps of having an eating disorder coz their skinny. And heir constantly comparing themselves to smaller peeps.

it does not matter what size you are, so long as you are comfortable in your skin.

Any size that is natural, is beauty. Trying to be something your not is ugly, and it will never work anyway.

My sister used to be a model, when she was in university.  She was 5'11", and weighed maybe 130.  I believe she was a size 10 or 12, or thereabouts.  She quit the biz because she got fed up with being told she had to lose weight.  My sis is one of those of those who can be skinny and still have an hourglass figure, because she's just built that way, but I don't think that stick-figure skinny-ness should be the accepted norm for models.  I think the "plus size" model image should be what's accepted as normal.

Nevermind that the oldfashioned idea of beauty does nothing to contribute to building positive self-esteem and emotional strength in today's youth.

Hello, it's not 1984.  War isn't peace, freedom isn't slavery, and ignorance isn't strength.  I'll add that morbid obesity isn't healthy.

Anyone know a runway model?  I don't.  Real people in the real world come in a vast variety of sizes and shapes but real beauty lies in self-confidence and good character and can shine through any body type.

Quit bashing your slender sisters, ladies.  It's not very becoming.

Nobody's talking about morbid obesity.  And just because someone objects to stick-thin runway models being held up as the ideal of beauty does not mean that he or she is morbidly obese, or even medically overweight.  It just means he or she has some sense.

I don't have a problem with naturally thin people.  I don't have a problem with naturally thick people.  I put emphasis on the natural part.  I believe we should all spend more time thinking about being healthy, and less about what size we are; furthermore, that a range of body types should be displayed in the media to reflect this.  That's all.

I think if you are naturally tall and thin, then it is beautiful and perfect for the industry.  I think women stop looking beautiful when they are too thin for their skin and bone structure- they start looking sallow, and sunken.  I am a size 0,however, and fairly tall, and I have a good metabolism.  I am thankful for it, however, I don't think it is fair to automotically assume that a tall size 0 woman is not healthy, or not attractive as some users have mentioned.  I've never smoked (ahem, cigarettes), never touched any club drug, and haven't had issues with men finding me appealing.  But, in New York, the average model is not a size 0.  They are looking for 5'9- 6 ft tall girls who fit a size 2 or 4...  Though I live in AZ, and it is a soft market as compared to New York and LA, even I ran into issues with the sample sizes for runway shows.  0 is too small for runway as most sample sizes are 4.  I just posted a hub that flirts around this same type of issue.  I'm new to this, so hello everyone!  I'm excited to be here

Marilyn Monroe was a UK size 16 (USA 12) and was considered very sexy by many.  Why are we so obsessed by skinny women?  Surely curves in the right places are far more appealing than seeing bones protruding.

By portraying skinny women as having "the perfect figure" it is causing much distress to the curvaceous women out there, in turn causing eating disorders.  Is this what the future is to be?  Do  the young girls striving to be a size 0 realise that they are damaging their health so much, I don't think so.  Why are we promoting this?  We should be ashamed.
