George Carlin was a very funny comedian & his hyperbole on religion is certainly amusing.  He had the freedom to do rants on any topic he chose, but I noticed that he took particular aim at the God of the Bible.

It is a moot question because he is dead, but I wonder, would he have booked a gig at a comedy club in Saudi Arabia & make sarcastic observations about Allah & the Koran?  If he would have had the balls to do so, he would have lost them & other body parts rather quickly.

Freedom of religion & freedom of speech are wonderful freedoms & from where exactly do those freedoms come?

According to Thomas Jefferson, humans beings are "endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights..."

There is plenty of bull in religion, but the fact that human beings screw up everything we touch, does not change the existence of a Supreme Being who doesn't require anyone's belief or approval to exist.

We are all free to develop our own worldview & perspective.  With freedom comes responsibility; we have the responsibility to respect those whose veiws & opinions are different or perhaps ever polar opposite of ours.

Since we all breath the same air & bleed the same color blood & face all the same struggles & existential questions why do we so easily mock & attack each other?

Oh, I know the answer: Because human beings are involved & we each have pride, delusions of grandeur & an instinct to protect our turf, whatever piece of intellectual turf we carve out & call our own.

If, hypothetically, Carlin might not have chosen to risk death by criticising Islam, then that says more about people with no respect for freedom of belief and freedom of speech than about him.  (And these freedoms come from the vigilance of human beings, helloooo?)
