Addicted to scores

   I was playing around with Yahoo! answers this morning, and suddenly I got a "Best answer"! Wow that's 10 points. I got so excited, I answered another 10 questions right away Then I thought to myself, jeez I am really addicted to scores. What is it with those numbers that makes us do all sorts of things just to push it up a bit higher?!
   
   I suppose it gives us a clear sense of achievement. We can say "today I earned 10 points" whereas progress in real-life is often times less clear and less frequent. It probably also gives us a self-esteem boost. Part of it is probably cultural too.
   
   What do you think? Are you addicted to scores too?

   I used to be, but my HubPages personal score was just too hard to influence, so I went cold turkey and I actually don't look at it any more.
   
   I still get excited about page views on Analytics, and earnings on Adsense, though, if they jump up unexpectedly.

   I used to go crazy about why i couldn't get a score over 90 on any of my hubs but when you see the ones that get 100 that are lame, you quickly realize it's a losing battle.  Hubscore?  Who cares?  it changes hourly.

   I used to be also. But more from curiosity - what do I have to do to have a personal hubscore of 100? OK, now I know, so I lost interest

   Since scores don't relate to earnings, I don't worry about scores.

   I used to worry about my hubber score, but now Im addicted to small little red triangles!!
   
   RE-Yahoo answers, getting a best score and 10 points is very good, mainly for when that question gets asked via search engine, your answer will appear on the first page, depending on how the phrase is worded! and when people view the page, they will usually view and listen to the first and  best answer and click a link of yours if you have placed there which is all good and worth being happy about!

      Yup yup, definitely agree with you on this. Participating in Yahoo Answers is a good way to get your articles out there and help people along the way. The score and levelling system there is also fun for a RPG junkie like me.

   Scores are just to buid a competition among hubbers  to keep us activated and always motivated to provide more and more quality content to see the scores going up.

   I think everyone starting out addicted to points and scores. Then, after awhile they realize that's impossible to keep up so points are just a bunch of numbers (unless it is a low one....heeheheee). You will definitely boost your score if you actively involve in this site. But of course we don't always have that kind of time.
