   Is it possible to make money by just writting quality hubs or do I really have to understand all the search engine, backlink, keywords, and analytics stuff.
   I am not being lazy I am just very confused by all of it.
   I would appreciate any help I can get on making this work but honestly when I read some of the directions, instructions, and advice it seems like I just stepped into the twilight zone.

      Yes, you can make money writing quality hubs. Not a ton, but a nice side income for sure.
      
      I make about $300/month (mostly AdSense, but a little Amazon & eBay) off the 130 hubs I've published. It's a total power curve, though, where about a dozen of my Hubs make 80% of the revenue.
      
      You don't have to do a lot of keyword and analytic research. You should just write about things that people are searching for in Google, and, preferably, things that you can easily imagine a good ad next to it. (i.e. some purely academic topics can get traffic but they don't necessarily make a lot of money because they don't have an advertiser for that topic).

      It is not possible without knowledge about keywords, SEO, backlinks and all the other robot language that drives traffic to your hubs. People say you've got to commit for 6 months to a year of hard labour, research and study before you can expect to make any dosh.
      After having quickly churned out my first 15 hubs (all with good hubscores) I noticed that traffic was very low. So I decided to stop publishing new hubs until I understood a bit more about SEO and promotion.
      Bottom line = Now I put in less than 1/3 of my available time writing hubs, 1/3 learning to optimise and promote and 1/3 implementing what I've learned (by tweaking existing hubs I wrote before I had the knowledge I have now). In this way, I figured I wouldbn't have to tweak more hubs that weren't getting much traffic. Now I know the ropes a little better my hubs attract more views but I am aware that I've still got a long way to go as I'm still learning new things every day. It's a slow process because you sometimes read contradictory advice from different fellow hubbers. But on the whole I find it an interesting journey, like learning a new language and I am very grateful for the friendly and helpful team spirit here on HubPages.

   I don't know about others. But, I can say that I am earning money. I'm not earning as much as I would like, but I'm also not promoting myself or my hubs, and none of my Hubs are linked anywhere.
   
   Or at least, I haven't linked them anywhere. Whether or not, someone else has linked to them, I don't know that either.
   
   I'm not presently using GOOGLE analytics. I look at my traffic page and I check adsense for clicks and page impressions. The page impressions I've noticed from adsense is different than the views on Hubpages traffic page. I am fine with that. The clicks are what matters.
   
   I've yet to earn anything from Amazon, but I've only a few Hubs with a lot of amazon links. I do have amazon links on most of my hubs, but 200 clicks over and not one sale. It's okay.
   
   My adsense continues to add up and I've earned about $10 accumulated from October 10, when I signed up. It took we about 3 weeks before I began getting clicks.
   
   The backlinks and analytics, as I said I don't use, but are very helpful for traffic generation from what I'm to understand.
   
   The search engine and keywords, are fairly simple to implement when making hubs. I know there are a few Hubs from more experienced hubbers. I just cannot think of who off-hand.

   The SEO and backlinking doesn't hurt. I wouldn't be making as much without them. Google analytics was the BEST thing I could do, without it its like being in the dark, trying to put a puzzle together.
   
   Analytics shows the serve earning curve I have, only 1/5th of my hubs made more then $2.00 lol, although all of them helped (most at least gave one cent).
   
   You have to remember, search engines don't want to read forced keywords, they want them to happen naturally. So yes, you will get traffic and money if you just write, and maybe have some kind of keyword placement involved.
