I have a question about tags on hubs. For example:
political ads
political campaign
political candidate
political party
political...etc.
Would I add these tags as listed above or just list the word "political" one time only and then the rest (ads, campaign, candidate, party) separately?
Would it make a difference?
I am not 100% sure on how tags work, but I would attach all the tags that you have written on a political hub. I consider a tag as a search string for HubPages, therefore if someone typed 'political ads' in the search bar then your hub would appear higher in the search order.
If someone typed 'political' then your hub might get lost in the multitude of political hubs. So yes, I'd add as many variants to your tag search strings as possible (without getting the HubPages message that you have too many tags and your hub might be considered substandard)
By just listing campaign, party, ads then you might get page views from people searching for different types of parties, ads etc. and no doubt your hub may get lost in the multitude of hubs with these tags. So being more specific with your tags will help in getting relevant people to your hub.
Ok, thanks. I see what you are saying.
In your example, since you are talking about tags/keywords, which is related to search engine results...then I would say...
Politics would be the singular term you would use to generalize. To optimize results...Political ads, Political campaigns and such are more targeted result oriented.
Hope that helped.
That makes sense. Have seen pages and written on pages where when I have added tags as in example, the published result showed all the words individually. That's why I was wondering if "that" was the way to go or as in the example.
Yes I agree. Consider adding all. When you add 'politics', you are adding generic. It will list your hub in politics category in hubpages and generate backlinks to your hub. It will also relate your hubs to other hubs tagged politics.
When you add other tags it will help you in SERPs.
I may be wrong here, but the way i understand it you dont want to add too many tags. Just the ones you are using in your hub itself. This is for your search engine ranking in google etc. Cant say anything about hubpages.
hubtags are a diff animal than "meta-tags" ...you used to get penalized for misleading meta tags in SERPS...in hubs as long as the tags are relevant its a good idea to use a large amount of them, as each tag is an internal link to your page...if you are so inclines you prob would do best if you used tags that others are using as those pages are more likely to pass some authority
I thought I read a rule somewhere that there is a limitation on the number of tags per hub article.
Thanks! Am trying to finish a hub to publish and wanted to finish tags. I have used tags as in my example, but had always wondered if that was the right way.
oh, i didnt even know there was 2 different types of tags, where is which?

What's the difference between keywords and tags? This is a question only a newbie to computers would ask, I'm sure, but I bought my very first computer a little over a year ago and hope you could write a hub-or an email-about this. I've looked at some answers given by other hubbers and am...

And indeed my hub rating, after doing something with my hubs.It may seem like stating the obvious, but I went through all of hubs and put the absolute maximum number of tags that I could before it said "you have too many tags" or whatever it says. When it said that I had too many tags I...
