Is it a requirement to be an offensive jackass or do they think they're funny? Could they actually be that far out of touch about how they come accross? Is humanism a religion for misfits?

I have met just as many Christians who are jackasses, as I've met Atheists who are.

Don't you think that's really going to a bit too far? I mean, I know the believers and atheists get into it and get heated sometimes AND even go too far...but do you really have to pander to the childishness? C'mon man. This sort of thread doesn't make the believers look any better than the way you SAY the atheists are.

I agree with you and as usual you are right. I was reading the discussions here and it appeared the atheists jump to insults alittle faster and I couldn't find much in the way of compassion so for the hell of it I thought lets talk about it.smile

Well...I guess I can understand that. God knows we've all been frustrated. I just try to chalk up the differences between atheists and believers to the amazing diversity that we can find in the world. The atheists have something worth listening to as well--especially when everyone's being civil. smile

Well, I thank you for the compliment, but I am guilty of getting too snippy sometimes. I'm trying to be better...and sometimes failing. Just today.

              Crud. sad

ETA: Okay. I am probably guilty of more than just being too snippy.
I'd say there are times when I too come off as downright sarcastic, insulting, and rude.

              I apologize.

            That I agree with!

It is frustrating to go into a thread with a desire to hear a different point of view only to have a sucker punch thrown by someone who has already judged me. The usual crew are relentless and turn me off to whatever they think they know. But there have been a few times where the participants have been diverse and the conversation was great. I even follow a few of them now. Holly

Holly, I don't pay much attention to the religious threads so I don't know which "side" you're on or how you express yourself.  But I agree, I'm disappointed that there are a few people who are now so angry at the opposite "camp", they don't even stop to find out whether a new poster is willing to debate or not - they just jump down their throat or make a puerile comment.  I think that's rude and unnecessary whichever side you're on.

You have to bear in mind the history here. Some atheists have been railing against bigoted fundamentalists on the religious threads for months and months - and they now have a short fuse!

no, the Christians are just as bad.

worse, actually, since they don't bother to answer your questions. at least the non-believers answer every question thrown at them.

besides, Christians are supposed to be loving and caring and whatnot, and in my Hubpages experience, they are not. i'm tired of being nice. i may say things they don't like from now on but at least i am not a hypocrite and i don't hide behind a sockpuppet. nor will i defend them anymore. let them fight their own battles - *I* do. yikes

No , basically they are in denial, kinda like a drug addict when they say they are not one , and they get mad and vicious because they know they are wrong , its the demons is all

But, it IS a requirement for believers to be offensive, as their religions dictate.

Are believers so out of touch with reality they choose to believe the physical laws of the universe bend to their whims?

      Religions are misfits for humans.

Not all atheists are jackasses ,Not all Christians are jackasses either you just have to respect each others boundaries in order to get along. So truly there isn't anything wrong with those that do not believe, we should look at our own values and should not be passing judgement on what someone else believes. smile

I agree wholeheartedly...I've notice this just from the few threads I've read her in the forums. Seems each feels the need to defend their beliefs.

some people are jackasses, first. It is not the religion or lack thereof that causes it.

"we should look at our own values and should not be passing judgement on what someone else believes"   I agree.  smile

    Offensive?
See, that's where the confusion comes in.
Offensive is not something I am. It is something that you decide I am.
You could dance around me yelling insults about my mother and making fun of my pet dog... but that would only be offensive if I decide to be offended by it.

If you let yourself get offended by a jackass, what does that say about you? I'm imagining a wilting flower...
    lol

    Oh, and
    question #2: back at ya
question #3: absolutely. You're always welcome to join wink
