Would you rather have a tummy tuck or liposuction?

    WHAT?

Liposuction is a surgical technique that is designed to shape and improve the appearance of particular parts of the body. It removes fat through a combination of fat aspiration, cutting of skin, and tightening of overlying muscles and skin. With the use of a stainless steel machine called a cannula, the fat deposits are removed from the body safely. Liposuction will significantly reduce fat, bringing you closer t your ideal weight.

Abdominoplasty, or what is generally known as tummy tuck is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes excess skin, fat and abdominal tissues. In most cases, it also restores weakened or separated muscles that will return the abdomen to a smoother and firmer appearance.

    Which would you rather have?

Liposuction with the Cannula is not as safe as you may think.
The patient is put under by general anesthesia and while they are asleep the instrument (with great force) is pushed in and out of the abdomen sucking out fat.
There have been cases where the Cannula has pierced the abdomen and punctured the intestines. When this occurs the feces goes into the abdominal cavity which can kill the patient if not detected and repaired.

Personally I can't ever see myself having a tummy tuck or liposuction but my weight isn't a current issue for me.  But if I was overweight and self conscious then I might have a different view.

I have lost 31 pounds dieting and exercising in the past year. Think I will stick with that. Don't care for that surgery thingy.

What about smartlipo? It's a lot less invasive than liposuction or a tummy tuck! http://www.mysmartlipo.com

The best results come when both procedures are perfomed. But if i had to choose just one, i would go for ultrashape rather than lipo as it's less invasive.

I probably wouldn't have either myself, but to answer the question I'd rathr have the tummy tuck. My stomach is my main 'problem area' since having my daughter.

None of the above.  I don't want any procedures unless they're going to save my life.   smile

I read an article by a pretty well known fitness instructor (although he's not well known enough for me to remember his name).  He talked about how people say they have "loose skin" or fat that "won't come off", and he noted that people in concentration camps didn't have stubborn fat or "loose skin".  He said how if you pull back the skin on the back of your hand you'll see that skin is tissue-paper thin, and "loose skin" is really just more fat that was left after stopping losing weight too soon.  He acknowledged that it can be more stubborn in going away.

I didn't know whether to believe what this guy said or not until my daughter brought home a cat that had been previously extremely overweight and that had a disturbing and creepy-looking amount of "loose skin" to the point she looked like she'd just twenty kittens.  The months wore on, and I just thought the cat would forever look like she had "an issue".

Today she's slender and doesn't look like she was overweight.  My son saw her after not seeing her for awhile and said, "Wow.  She looks just like a normal cat now."  So now I've seen first-hand that what the fitness guy said was apparently true - which, to me, makes having any potentially risky procedures really just the "lazy person's way out".

I just think if people have a major or minor "issue" they should either work on it with diet and exercise or else cover it up and live with it.  I don't really see a sensible place for procedures.

just sit ups will do, I am apprehensive about the procedures here.

Sit ups affect the muscles but can not reduce fat cells..nor loose skin.

Fat cells don't multiply, they grow larger then shrink when weight is reduced. Once fat cells are removed they never come back.

Loose skin is caused by losing weight too quickly. When losing weight a tight band should be worn around targeted areas to help the skin reduce along with the fat.

Sit-ups and strength training won't work on my lower abdomen muscles due to 2 vertical incision C-sections. I do strength training 3 times a week. Stomach is only area that stays loose.

I agree..if muscles are messed up it is hard to strengthen them.

No kidding....they were sliced in half both times. They give the 'bikini cut' now, traditionally. My surgeries were in 1978 and 1982...not done as much. I am happy with my body image, for the most part.

TUMMY TUCK!!!!  Here I come, if I could afford it. I'd be a good candidate for it since I've had 2 C-sections that were performed using the old vertical incision on the abdomen. This destroyed the muscles in my stomach and healed back uneven. One side pooches out more. I'm unable to get any muscle tone there. I wish I could afford the procedure.

I don't need a tummy tuck or liopsuction, but if I did, given the option, I'm not so sure I'd go for either one.

I find it sad that people can't be happy with themselves these days because of so much media hype about looking perfect and when mags photoshop the bodies of already super thin models to the extent that their heads are wider then their waistlines.

I'm sick of being told how imperfect we all are.  I think we should just rebel against the whole beauty and cosmetic surgery industry and say... screw you guys, I'm way OK just the way I am.
