My friend is having a baby shower for her 17 year old daughter and I'm in charge of the games ! Any ideas would be appreciated!!
There is a good game where you give all of the attendees a baby pin to pin on their lapels. After you get your pin, you can't say the word "baby". If you hear someone say the word "baby", you take their pin. The one with the most pins after one hour, wins. You could shorten the time.
I know, get a horn or whistle or something. The game is that whoever has the horn/whistle, whatever gets to blow it. Every time the whistle gets blown, Mommy has to get up and change a diaper or feed a baby etc... You get the point.
And whomever Mommy ask to take out the trash gets the whistle next.
I recently did the games for my niece's baby shower. They were really fun.
1. Finish the nursery rhyme -- make a list of 20 or however many you want nursery rhymes and have everyone fill in the missing word or words. Time it (2 minutes should be sufficient). Whoever gets the most right wins.
2. Baby Gift Bingo. Make a bingo card with 5 squares across and 5 down (middle square is "free space"). Each time the mother-to-be opens a gift you (the MC of the games) shout out the name of the gift and those who have that gift get to "claim it." Usual BINGO rules apply -- first one to get a full line of boxes crossed off -- in any direction -- wins.
This is really fun but takes some work because each of the bingo sheets has to be different. But that's not too, too hard to do.
3. Think like the Mother. Everyone gets the same sheet for this one. Along the left column put the letters of the Mother's first name, the father's first name and their last name (or any thing you want, really). First have the mother=to=be fill in her sheet. She is to write in a pregnancy-related word next to each letter. So let's say her name is Jordan. The letters would be J, O, R, D, A, N. Jordan would fill in her sheet with words such as (Joy, ovary, round, delivery, anticipation, nursing).
Again, the guest who gets the most words the same as the MTB wins. Reading the entries aloud is a riot!
Other shower games I've played that can be really fun include Concentration -- make a tray of items related to motherhood and babies. Examples: a baby bottle, bootie, diaper pin, nursing pad, piggy bank -- as many items as you want to include. Give all guests a set amount of time to look at the items, then use their memories to recall all the items.
One that might work well for a younger (teen) mother involves guessing the circumference of the mother's belly. Start with a spool of ribbon. Have each guest measure out and cut off the length of ribbon they think will go exactly around the mom's belly. It's quite a hands-on and you need a MTB who is a good sport!
Good luck and have fun. For me, one of the best parts was picking out the prizes for winners! MM
We played these at my baby shower. We also had one where everyone got an ice cube with a little plastic baby in it. Whoever's ice melted first got a prize.
Looking forward to doing the games - you have lots of ideas!!
We just had a shower for my boss and one of the games was cutting a peace of string trying to guess how big around the pregnant one is. Who ever is the closes wins.
Hey BJC - It's actually been awhile since anyone I know was in the family way (what an expression), but I remember one that was fun.
Get all kinds of items and baby products (you know like the little sample bottles of baby wash, soap etc.), and tape them on the front door so they appear like merely decorations for the shower. Then when the games start, give everyone a pencil and paper and have them write what they recall seeing. Try and use some not so obvious baby items, in case some people just decide to brainstorm general items, instead of remembering what they actually saw. Have a great time!
It is amazing how innovative people are in finding new games. Quite enjoyable. dreamdamodar
Get Some receiving blankets, baby outfits, bottles and some organic baby care products and place them inside of a large basket. Make use of one of the baby blankets as the base of the gift basket, wrapping it around the tissue paper in the bottom of the basket. Wrap the basket in pink or blue netting and tie it at the top with a white velvet ribbon.

We have been invited to a baby shower. Both men and women were invited. My husband is flabbergasted and says it is in bad taste (primarily because he doesn't want to go, I think). He says it is wrong.I say, why not? I'm actually relieved, since it probably means we won't have to play stupid parlor...
