Another 2 good pinging services are pingates and pingomatic I use these quite regularly but sometimes don't need to as hub pages are quite good at getting your hub indexed fairly quickly.

Don't get discouraged too fast - some topics have very high competition. As long as you make them high quality and thrown in some good keywords without spamming them, that's all you can do.
I just hit 50 hubs and only half of them have ever had a google sent view. And only 10% have more than half their views from outside sources (incl google) other than hubpages.
If you're not an SEO expert it's really learn as you go. Just make a hub and move onto the next one - the one you've written might fail or you might find out it's more popular at certain times of year. But don't put your eggs in one basket - just keep writing hubs. smile
Edit: Don't take that to mean you should get discouraged. Of those 10% that get regular search engine views, I'm getting 100+ hits a day.

This is such a newbie, embarrassing question... but how do you know when you're indexed?

Thank you for asking that because I am still not sure either.

I can tell I get Google traffic from a variety of Google sites.
However when people say for example they are on page one of Google do they just Google search their topic while not logged into their Google account or is there a special place to look it up?

you would know your indexed if you copy pasted your hub url into google search. If nothing comes up, you are not indexed. If your hub shows up your indexed.

You can install the Google toolbar which will let you see if the page has been cached or not or you can use the cache: operator directly in Google's search box i.e.

      cache:yoururl

Make sure there are no spaces between cache: and the URL you want to check.

For example cache:www.seoscotland.net will show the cached version of my homepage and the date it was last spidered, just change the URL for the page you wish to check.

Well you have certainly persuaded me that you know nothing about generating traffic to your webpages and I will not be buying the "miracle traffic bot software" you are selling on your hubpage.

Honestly - it is people like you selling products they have never tried and do not understand that give us all a bad name.

      Shame on you.
