I have a suggestion of having a sticky thread in your profile.
This sticky thread could be beneficial and be similar to like Wall of Facebook where other hubbers could come and comment pertaining to just you.

If I have to say something specific to a particular hubber I have to either send a message or start a thread. Going to the profile and writing on thier wall would be easy.

You can send them an email using the Contact feature.  That's more appropriate if it's a private message.

Not a good idea. More spam options. Plus, what if everyone doesn't want everyone to read what they have to say.

I have always wanted a messaging system within the site. I don't check my email account that I use for HP very often, plus if I respond, I have to expose my email address. I know that there would be spam, but there is spam anyways, it just goes to my email box. Captcha could be used, or whatever it is called. However, I suspect that we do not have a messaging system because it is in the site's best interest to have as many people posting on the forums to create more content for SE's to find. smile

@Marisa I know about the  contact feature but It would be easier to drop into your profile page and say I like your new avatar or congratulate on your milestones achieved in Hubtivity rather than mailing. Just a thought.

@Whitney, well spam can be dealt by allowing only your fans to have access. Hubbers are as well posting in the forums where everything is transparent I doubt they would mind sharing it on the wall.

@Girly got your point from SE's perspective, exactly the messaging system would be a feature that will be more apt.

And that's exactly why I wouldn't like it. I'm sure we'd get heaps of people dropping in to say "congrats" just to get a link on a profile with good PR.

As Whitney points out, we can't control who our fans are so that would be no solution.

Because we can't control who are our fans, we can't control what they leave. There are so many hubbers who are my fans who look spammy, don't have a picture, have low quality hubs, etc.

Unless, you're saying only people we are fans of can post a message, then that's a little different, but there are many people who be-friend everyone or don't be-friend anyone.

I wouldn't want the feature on my profile. It'd look cheesy, more of a myspace or facebook deal, which this site is not. Social networking is the place to make friends and chat with people. If you need to ask a question, send a private email. I know I have done that in reference to online marketing and whatnot.

Even a Private Messaging system would be better than a "wall," but again this website is not geared for social networking. It's not a true forum, where PM systems are most often implemented. The website is geared at writing.

What your requesting as far as quick contact goes is essentially covered by the feed and fan mail options.

The hubfeed covers most of the functions of a facebook feed and twitter feed

-the only thing missing is some sort of inconspicuous alert that shows someone has commented to a status update or milestone

I can see why some people would like that kind of thing, but I'm with the ones who wouldn't like it.

This is going to seem really awful (or unfriendly or controlling - or something), but I like control over what shows up on my profile page.  To put it in less nice terms, I don't want any-old Tom, Dick, or Harry's two-cents' worth on my profile page.  lol
