There is a lot of controversy out there regarding the effect of weight gain, while taking psychiatric medication.   I weigh 240 pounds, and want to write a book about how to lose one hundred pounds.  I have started a diary, and I',m wondering if any of you think this is a fresh, and creative idea.  I have not found any books about losing 100 pounds or more.  I have also thought of a website too.  I call this kind of fat Medicine Fat.  I have trademarked the name.  I just want to put this out there, and see what people think of the idea?

I happened upon your 'hub' by accident (or was I meant to?) and I am intrigued. I just joined a couple of minutes ago so I am not sure just how this all works but I am interested. I am a 63 year old female who has dropped 70 pounds and am on my way to losing 120 so I still have a long way to go. I am on medications and I am disabled so losing weight is hampered by these and other issues. I would be happy to correspond with you.

Cody, I think this is a great topic. You might want to break down you overall goal into steps.  Losing 100 pounds is a tall order! Not only can you be an inspiration for others you can also bring attention to this problem to the pharmcutical companies that create the product! I think your idea will develop to be better than you thought!

I agree with Ms Cheivous. I know a guy I work with has lost about that much. His isn't related to medications, but it is amazing to see someone change so much for the healthier. I think you have a lot of potential with a website and book. Keep pluggin!

I agree completely, this is a great topic. My mother is on meds that caused her to gain weight, although hers is because of blood pressure meds. I would love to find a way to help her lose the weight. There are so many people out there, and once you get the manuscript done start checking out the writer's market, it can help you find agents willing to take your topic. They have a website.
Make sure to put in all your struggles and how you overcame them, and it would also work great if you could do interviews with people that have experienced the same things.

Sounds like a good topic - there's certainly demand out there in our world of increasing obesity.

Such a big topic too (excuse the pun) - obesity has multiple causes and there need to be multiple solutions.

One interesting area to explore would be to list all the aspects of modern society that contribute to obesity, and then to examine ways of making society more conducive to healthy living.

    Good luck with your project!

It is a very much needed topic! It's definitely a lifestyle that leads people to obesity. So it should be preventive by right upbringing of new generation. I'm not talking about people on medication, that's obviously different.

"Finally Thin" is about a woman who lost 200 lbs.  So, there are books out there from people losing over 100 lbs.  I wrote a review of this book.  I do agree however that I don't think there are enough books about HOW people can successfully and safely lose large amounts of weight.  I wish you success in your endevour.

Good luck with that. Weight gaining and lifestyle are two separate things, connected by the word Life.

Weight gaining isn't a lifestyle, but a part of life.

2 Months ago a couple of sock puppets or whatever decided that it would be fun to open this thread.

There was never any intention to communicate beyond the OP.

Why do such people have the opportunity to post in forums when they have no other intention here as far as writing etc. hmm

And Why do members support the threads that are opened by these clowns? hmm

Hope that your book helps many out there who are battling with weight loss and you provide some reviews as to what's effective and what's hype.

I totally agree with you that this message needs to get out.  And not just with blogs, it NEEDS to get into published book form.  Do you have samples of your book on your blog?

I think it's a great.  I haven't seen anything out there on losing 100 pounds.  Even better is that it's your own personal experience.

While I did not have 100 pounds I could lose at the time, I can speak from personal experience what is, I believe, a fool-proof way to lose weight.
In my battle with cancer, I was given a "terminal" prognosis and had to turn to a nutritional alternative. After a few weeks on the diet I was in fit a shape as I had been since high school. (I was 36 at the time).
Quite simply, the diet consisted of:
    -No processed food.
    -No white sugar.
-No white flour (only 100% whole wheat).
    -Very little animal protein.

Basically fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, berries, nuts and seeds. A little milk with cereal, a little butter on bread or corn, some fish a few times a week. It is so simple, but we are so addicted and predisposed to processed food that it is difficult for many people to follow.
The above diet was for fighting cancer, thus the limit on animal protein. I won't go into the reason here, but if one is trying to lose weight, meat is fine, just keep the percentage of your overall food intake to less than 20%, and watch the fat.
