Updated on January 17, 2018

I've been a fan of Pokémon since the beginning & an anime fan since birth. I love to read manga and play video games, including Dota 2.

The Johto Region

Johto is a region in the Pokemon World. It is located west of the Kanto Region. The region is mostly reminiscent of old-fashioned houses and buildings. With the introduction of Pokemon Gold and Silver version of the game, it presented 100 new pokemons along with 3 new starter pokemon and legendaries.

Now let me give you my top 10 favorite pokemon from the second genration of pokemon game series.

Mega Heracross

Mega Heracross

The Single Horn Pokémon

Heracross is a beetle-like pokemon with a long, pronged horned on its head. It has a high Attack stat and a great offensive typing with am access to high-powered STAB moves. It is also bulky having a high Defense and Special Defense stat and a decent HP stat. But it has a low Speed stat that make it prone to high speed opponents. Also, its weakness to Flying (4x), Fire, Psychic and Fairy made it very difficult for Heracross to deal with.

With the introduction of Generation VI and the Mega Evolution, Heracross is one of the few lucky pokemon to receive a Mega Evolution. Mega Heracross has the ability called Skill Link that makes the multi-strike moves to always strike five times. Also the stats of Heracross is increased, with its base Attack, Defense and Sepcial Defense increasing but its speed decrease.

The Face of Mercy?!

Azumarill is an Aqua Rabbit pokemon. It is the final evolved form of azurill. According to Smogon, Azumarill is a threat in the OU metagame because of its special ability, typings, movepool, bulk and power. Because of its Water-Fairy typing it gives key resistances and immunities to Fire, Fighting, Water, Dark and Dragon types. Its Huge Power ability adds power to its terrible Attack stat. It also has great Defense and Special Defense stat that makes it bulky and strong. It also has some powerful STAB moves like Aqua Jet, Play Rough and Waterfall.

Some people made memes stating that is Azumarill's face the face of mercy. It just states that everyone is agreeing that Azumarill is a strong Pokemon that can be useful to be added to your team.

Mega Steelix

Mega Steelix

The Iron Snake Pokémon

Steelix is the evolved form of Onix. To evolve Steelix From Onix, you will have to trade Onix while holding a Metal Coat. Steelix is another one of the few Pokemon to have a Mega Evolution that was introduced on the remake of the Generation III Pokemon Game Series.

Steelix is obviously a tank type Pokemon. It is one of the Pokemon with high base Defense stat. It has a great defense typings and a strong attack too. This Pokemon is immune to Electric and Posion Types but weak to Fire, Ground, Water and Fighting types. Steelix also has many resistances like Normal, Flying, Fairy, Dragon, Rock, Bug, Steel and Psychic Types.

When it mega evolves, its base Defense increases making it more a solid tanker. It's base Attack also increases. Making it stonger in both Offensive and Defensive style.

Baby Egg?! Pokémon

The Spike Ball Pokemon, Togepi is here because mainly of its cuteness. HAHA! Just kidding. This pokemon is not worthless at all. According to Smogon, Togepi's well-rounded bulk and strong coverage options make it a stellar supporting Batton Passer. From a single type to a dual typing, Togepi became more useful than before. Now, it can learn some powerful STAB moves like Dazzling Gleam that will help in defeating foes.

Togepi has evolutions but I really don't like its designs. Togetic is somewhat a deformed chicken, while Togekiss is an obese bird. From a cute egg like creature, togepi turned into somewhat horrrible creature. Sorry but I dont like Togetic and Togekiss. Always remember that this is only my opinion. Don't hate.

The Johto Eeveelutions

The Eevee Duo of the Johto Series, Umbreon, the Moonlight Pokemon, and Espeon, the Sun Pokemon.

Umbreon is an evolved form of Eevee. It evolves from Eevee after you leveled it up with high friendship during the night or when around a moon shard. Moon shard, together with Sun Shard are key items at Pokemon XD game. It has a high base Special Defense and Defense stat and a decent HP stat. It is not that a good attacker but with a great STAB move it can be a great offensive player as well.

Espeon is also one of the evolved form of Eevee. You need to evolve eevee with high level of friendship during the day or when around a Sun Shard. Unlike, Umbreon, Espeon has a high Special Attack and Speed stat and a somewhat decent Special Defense stat. With its special ability, Magic Bounce, it will be immune to all status effects. With its stats, it will allow Espeon to deal some great damage to opponents plus its STAB moves will really prove Espeon as a great Pokemon.

Mega Scizor
Mega Scizor
Mega Scizor

The Pincer Pokémon

Scizor is the evolved form of Scyther. It evolves from Scyther when traded holding a Metal Coat. It is also one of the few Pokemon that have Mega Evolution.

It has a great Attack and Defense stat and a decent Special Defense stat. According to Smogon, it has a little but diverse move pool that allows it to be in a different roles. With its ability, Technician, it can easily defeat its opponent with its STAB move, Bullet Punch and others. But the downfall is that it is very vulnerable to Fire types and many other trainers uses Fire types and pokemon that knows fire type moves. But overall Scizor is a great offensive pokemon and design wise, Mega Evolving Scizor make it more awesome than being the normal Scizor - having a chainsaw-like pincers, and the blach headress and all.

Mega Houndoom
Mega Houndoom
Mega Houndoom

The Dark Pokémon

Houndoom is the final evolved form of Houndoor. It evolves from Houndoor at level 24. Houndoom is another one of those who receive Mega evolution.

Houndoom has a high Attack, Special Attack and Speed stat and a decent Special Defense stat. According to Smogon, Houndoom is a great pokemon in both the defensive and offensive team. It has a large set of movepool and a mixed offensive stat. But because of the low Defense stat, Houndoom can be killed in just one hit by other pokemon types like, Water, Rock, Ground and Fighting types.

With its hell hound like design, I became in love with Houndoom and when it mega evolves, the bones are too awesome! I know you hate houndoom but this is my opinion. Just comment your reaction about this below. :)

Mega Tyranitar
Mega Tyranitar
Mega Tyranitar

The Armor Pokémon

The final form of Larvitar. It evolves from Pupitar at level 55. Tyranitar is one of the pokemon that receive Mega Evolution.

Tyranitar is a Rock/Dark type of Pokemon. A somewhat odd typing but because of it it can checkmate those prominent and strong pokemon like Latios, Latias, Charizard, Gengar and Talonflame. It has a high Attack, Defense and Special Defense stat and a decent Special Attack stat. The thing is that it has a bit low Speed making other strong types with higher speed to defeat it.

I know the original Tyranitar is cool but Mega Tyranitar is kinda off. I don't like the design but over all stat-wise and design-wise, Tyranitar deserve the top 03.

The Johto Starters

The Johto Starters are the second set of starters that were introduced in the Pokemon Game series. The starters are again Grass, Water and Fire. The players will choose among Chikorita (Grass Type), Cyndaquil (Fire Type) and Totodile (Water Type). Let us look at these starters one by one, starting with the grass type starter Chikorita.

Chikorita is a mono-grass type pokemon. It evolves into Bayleef at level 16 and at level 32 it became Meganium. Meganium is a dinosaur-like pokemon with petals around its neck. It has a decent attack and defense stat. But it only has moves that is for supporting like Aromatherapy. It is a decent pokemon but much more grass types have outclassed Meganium. Many pokemon fanatics have prayed that the johto starters wil receive a mega evolution and I am one of them. :)

Cyndaquil is a mono-fiire type pokemon. It evolves into Quilava at level 14 and at level 36 it will evolve into Typhlosion. Until now I am kinda tongue-tied in pronouncing "Typhlosion". I don't know if its tayf-lo-shon or tif-lo-shon. Nevertheless, I really like this pokemon design-wise and stat-wise. Though there are much more stronger fire type pokemon that Typhlosion, still I like this pokemon. It has a great Special Attack and Speed stat and a decent Attack stat. It also has some great movepool like Eruption, Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Focus Blast and a lot more. But due to its low Special Defense stat it will never get past strong Water type pokemon like Jellicent.

Lastly, Totodile ia a mono-water type pokemon. It evolves into Croconaw at level 18 and at level 30 it evolves into Feraligatr. It has a great Attack and Defense stat and with its ability, Sheer Force, it became a premier threat according to Smogon. It can perform as a poweful sweeper and wallbreaker. But due to its low speed it can be outsped by more stronger and faster pokemon. Feraligatr is the strongest of these three starters. With access to different movepools that can counter all its weak points - Ice Fang, Blizzard and Ice Beam for Grass types, and Earhquake, Bulldoze and Dig for Electric types.

The Johto Legendaries

Johto has introduced six legendaries - the Tower Duo (Ho-oh and Lugia), the Legendary Beasts(Raikou, Suicune and Entei) and the Time Travel Pokemon, Celebi.

Celebi, the Time Travel Pokemon, or the other would say the onion-like fairy pokemon, is an event only pokemon. It has a unique typing but a well rounded stat and a large different movepool that can defeat every threat that comes its way. Though it has many weaknesses it still has some great moves to counter this and it has some support moves that can benefit its team. Design-wise Celebi is quite nice but some people laugh and say that it is an onion pokemon. But for me Celebi is good.

The Legendary Beasts comprise of Raikou, the Thunder Pokemon, Entei, the Volcano Pokemon, and Suicune, the Aurora Pokemon. It is said that these three are said to be Resurrected by Ho-oh after the burning of the Brass Tower. The represents the things that have strike or happened in the tower - Raikou is the lightning that strikes the tower, Entei is the flames that burned the tower and Suicune is the rain that quenched the fires that burned the tower. Stat wise, the three have different specialty. Raikou is more on the Speed and Special Attack stat, while Entei has a high Attack and HP stat and Suicune on the other hand has a high Defense and Special Defense stat. Design wise, they are so cool that the Generation V legendaries copy their style, I am talking about the Swords of Justice (Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion). But the legendary beasts are way way cooler than them.

Lastly, the Tower Duo, Ho-oh, the Rainbow Pokemon and Lugia, the Diving Pokemon. According to the legends, Ho-oh is the Guardian of the Skies, while Lugia is the Guardian of the Seas. You can encounter Ho-oh at bell tower while holding the Rainbow Wing in HeartGold and SoulSilver game while in the Gold, Silver, Crystal game, you can encounter Ho-oh at Tin Tower holding the Rainbow wing. Lugi on the other hand is residing at Whirl Islands, you need the Silver wing for you to encounter it. Ho-oh has realatively high Attack and Special Attack stat while Lugia has a high Defense and Special Defense stat. Ho-oh has some nice powerful STAB moves that can be annoying if you encounter it and while Lugia's amazing defensive stat is also annoying plus it also has some amazing movepool to choose from.
