   To a certain point I have followed the path as I have done the things I felt I wanted to and the things that have seemed right. It has led me to a great life and to my fiancee as we prepare to get married in September.

   It's not an either/or question. My path in life has been that of a driver who sometimes veers off the road and takes detours (intended or otherwise) through woods and fields, sometimes plunges into rivers and floats downstream before find the way ashore again, finds the way back to the road and follows it for a while, then....
   
   From my perspective, that's more interesting than staying on the road ALL the time.

   This is an interesting question. Inevitably, I have followed my path because it became my path in retrospect. It didn't always work out the way I might have planned or dreamed, but it's led me to where I am now, which is exactly the right place to be.

   It is a very interesting question, because many ways lead to a goal. Not in every life we can see a path for all times, we live more in our reality in different surroundings for a sequence of time. Mothers have duties, which never can do any other person, I think so. So women can not go a easy ongoing way to only one goal. Life is very broad and challenging, when family work, childrens health problems, a bredwinner job and studies involved. But I am satisfied with my personal success for this moment and I will plan the next goal

   When I was little I just knew I'd end up being a singer on Broadway or TV. Well, that didn't happen for lots of reasons. So I bypassed that path. But the good news is that my eventual path - marriage, motherhood and writing - has fulfilled me in ways that the other direction couldn't have. I wondered for a while about "the road not taken". But one look around me at all I have sets any regrets to rest!

   My personal beliefs make me see that in order to grow you have to be open to a lot of things that aren't on your self declared path.  So in some instances I have jumped the track and landed in a bed of roses. Other times I have jumped and landed in a pile of  dog "stuff".  But, all of these experiences help me to grow as a mom, wife, writer, and teacher.  This is what life is supposed to be about.  In my opinion if you always stay on the same path you may never reach your true potential.

   A truly introspective question sangre and one that, if answered honestly by each interested individual, could certainly lead to incredible changes for all of us.
   In my humble opinion the only way to answer this question with absolute certainty is to view ones life via hindsight, since it has been said that "hindsight is 20/20." However, to my knowledge, no human possesses this wisdom's viewpoint, so until we have walked the path, we must take a different view.
   In an alternate view, I agree with dmhenderson and I also choose to see the path as a dream created in part by me...adding to the mystery. I will say this, I do have a choice if I want to change whatever path I find myself on. I don't create all my circumstances, of course. Yet, it is my decision if I actually want to contribute to life on this planet or in this universe in a constructive way...or not. The power of choice is what differentiates our species. I see and suggest a path, a life, full of joy, happiness and service, even in the smallest of ways!

    Life teaches us to complete joy, we must complete tears. Peace comes only after knowing conflict. Happiness is only found through acceptance, and Laughter, well, thank goodness, without laughter, I would have buried myself 10 feet under a long time ago. read more

    I am beginning to believe it is human nature to do both.  If we even recognize it.
    Fortunately, the world has a wonderful way of teaching us, if we are willing to listen.  I just like believing I was suppose to walk the crooked path to better enjoy the fragrance of the roses, or something happy like that.

    I like this question because I believe that we absolutely have paths, and I most certainly fell off mine.  I was too stubborn to stay on it and took an enormous detour.  Funny thing about paths however, I think when you are on the wrong one you continually get nudged until you change course.  While on my detour I found that the majority of what I got was everything that I didn’t want.  It was like I was attempting to push an enormous boulder up the wrong side of a mountain.  It just wasn’t going to work, and that boulder and that mountain were only going to continue to grow larger.  It was about that time that I decided that perhaps my original road was worth revisiting.  In all honestly it was one that I never should have left and all I can do is hold to the lessons that I learned while off.

       That's a great analogy. It a good way to try and explain to someone who doesn't understand your decision on a certain matter.
