Generally you are leaning forward a bit when you climb, you don't want to unbalance and and fall backward downhill. When coming down, you weight is on the heel-- again, for balance and prevention of a downhill nose dive.
Usually to go faster and at the same time trying to keep the balance and avoiding making noise.
It's like multi-tasking since it gives you speed, less noise, and makes you work on your calf muscles as well
I usually don`t, this is much harder (only when I want to make less noise). I use tip toes only when I go down (and not all the time).
I don't. I suppose the question that you should be asking yourself is why you walk on your tiptoes when going up stairs. Is it some inherent imbalance, a nervous tic, perhaps a compulsion, or nerve damage? You should go to your doctor right away.
