Christmas is my favorite time of the year. In spite of the excessive commercialism, the message of a new beginning suggested by the story of Jesus is one that lifts my spirits.  It is story about a journey from the most humble of beginnings to the most exalted heights of glory with some brutal times and an execution along the way.  My reaction to the message of Christmas is real to me and I don’t need to be convinced that the events did, or did not, actually happen.  The story of Christmas is uplifting to me whether it began on December 25th or not at all.

Christmas makes me joyful.  A time I rediscover that giving and sharing produce their own rewards.  A season in which I wish everyone enjoyed the best that life has to offer.  Although I have these feelings all year long, they seem stronger at Christmas.   So when I say “MERRY CHRISTMAS”, it is not an invitation to endorse any biblical assertions or to join me at a religious service.  Rather, it is just an expression of my hope that you feel and share the bliss, the childlike excitement, and the same joy that I feel during this wonderful season.

As for a Christmas song, I like “Tell Me Why” by Declan Galbriath.  It is not usually associated with Christmas but maybe it should be:

Merry Christmas to one and all.

Agreed completely! And that's precisely why I'm not offended when people wish me a Happy Whatever Holiday I Don't Happen to Observe. Of course it's more than just good wishes. It's a way of saying, "I feel especially happy because this day is very special to me, and you mean enough to me that I wish you this kind of happiness."

Why thank you, my respected friend.
I hate that folks these days qualify their holiday greetings.
But it is good to be talking about it just the same.

In post after post, I read folks explaining that they are not trying to offend, and others explaining that they are not being offended.
Can we call the game over already? lol

We're all kind minded people. An expression of happiness is not an attack weapon. smile
              We all know this.
Let those who decide for themselves to be offended by a greeting and salutation deal with their own self-inflicted misery. smile

The rest of us will go about enjoying the season and sharing the happiness, yes?
When you wish this atheist Merry Christmas, you get a double dose. 1) your kind wishing and 2) your kind wishing being sent back at you. smile
              All this best to you

              Jen

Nah.  I never cared that my score would hit 89 and then drop lower into the 80s and go back and forth.  that was fine.  It was honest . . . or as honest as it can get when everything NOT related to writing counts here anyway. . . it just annoys me that all the flagging dropped me down below 75 where they "disconnect" you or whatever.
What the hell?  When I wrote for newspapers I was never penalized because my editor or a customer disagreed with my content. . .and newspapers are ALL about the advertising; trust me.
Oh well, whatever, I'll work my way back up sooner or later.

This is a great idea Make Money.  O Holy Night is my favorite Christmas Carol, so I am glad you chose this as the first Carol.  I used to love listening to and singing Christmas Carols and spending time with family and friends.  Those times were my favorite as a child.

I would like to wish all hubbers, readers and the hubpages team a Merry Christmas and a blessed and prosperous New Year!!!

I think we who celebrate Christmas should be proud of our religion and not ashamed and hide it, everyone else is allowed to call their festivities by their name, why shouldn´t we? And above religion and everything when you say it, you wish the best of happiness to everyone, so Merry Christmas to everyone! smile
