What does, "Overly Promotional" mean?
On some of my short poems I get a warning when I publish that states, "this Hub is at risk of being identified as Overly Promotional or Substandard.". I understand the substandard implication, but can anyone explain why HubPages would consider a short poem, overly promotional?
Wayne, the only time I've seen that is when I included several of my brother's paintings and referenced his web address beneath each one. Once I removed the address from 2 of the photos, the message went away.
Hmm, The only pics I have used other than my own have been free domain pics. I do add the pic address, but I thought we were supposed to do that if possible.
We are, but apparently I had too many of the same in my last post. :-(
The only thing that I can think of is that you used too many links in your poem... either that or perhaps one of the pictures you used had a logo or brand name on it
All of the pieces that have had this warning attached have gone on to become featured...so maybe it's just a generic warning that comes with a piece containing a small word count.
Wayne, the small word count would account for the latter half of the warning. Try adding an Amazon or Ebay module and see if it goes away.
Wayne, if they have some of your drawings or paintings, you sign them. They are probably seeing that signature as a watermark. You might try using photoshop to block out the signature, and only using the caption to identify where they came from. That is the only thing that comes to my mind on this.
I am very impressed by your art work, by the way. I wish I could draw like that.
Thanks, Becky. I thought about that , but even poems without my art work show the same warning. i have noticed that it only shows up on the poems that are short, so I think that is why I'm getting it.
If you have more than 2 of the same link, then it will be considered "overly promotional."
The only thing I list on some of them is Amazon books. Could it be because I am listing 3?
Wayne, try adding a video and see what happens.
If they are all different books, I don't think so. I am an author and sometimes list my book twice in a hub and don't have a problem. But, I have gotten the "overly promotional" for using (1) the same link twice, and (2) a video with a watermark.
If this is in regard to your poems , then only the second half of that warning applies to you. It just means that you do not have enough content. you could try publishing a set of poems , maybe 5 to each hub, once you reach above 500 words per hub you will not get that warning message anymore.

Is a warning for being overly promotional on an unpublished hub a bad thing?I am working on a hub right now that will include links to several different sites. I went ahead and found the sites I intend to use and put them in an unpublished hub just as a way to save them. I intend to go...

A lens of mine that was transferred to HubPages was identified as having too many affiliate links. I cleared out all the links except one affiliate link and one link to Wikipedia. The only other links on the page are all the ads that HubPages loads up the header, footer, and sidebar...

I'm pretty new to HubPages (joined 6 weeks ago but got "busy" about 2 weeks ago posting Hubs) -- I got spanked last week and had a hub taken down temporarily for citing direct links to the particular information relating to multiple parties (all of which linked to SEC.gov, but different...

Is there a balance of Amazon products on a page that makes a hub overly promotional? Or is it dependent on the individual hub (over and beyond the 50 words per product)?

I recently wrote a hub: 25 Must have WordPress Plugins. The problem is that it is in danger of being flagged "Overly Promotional". Now, I have 25+ links to a single domain( wordpress.org ) because well, the plugins are there and I need to link to them.My questions: Can this hub be...

I just had a hub flagged as "overly promotional" and am a bit confused after reading the FAQ on this topic.A direct quote from the FAQ: "Please note that promotional links are links that you have any interest in promoting (your blog, your Website, affiliate offers, etc.). Links to...
