      Check out Steven Saylor's Roma Sub Rosa series. It's several books and starts with Roman Blood. Basically a Sherlock Holmes during Caesar's time with all stories revolving around actual crimes and events.

   I advise you to read some non fiction, especially self help books. It will improve your knowledge, confidence and outlook a lot.

   I recommend you to; Past Forgetting: by Kay Summersby Morgan. Kay was Eisenhower's driver during the war. She was his lover and confidant. You are there when Ike made world shattering decisions, you are there when he wept over sending so many young men and women to their deaths on D Day. You are there in the little cottage they rented as their secret getaway.
   Although of interest to women readers, there is much of interest to a male reader.

   If you like science fiction I recommend the Tripod Series by John Christopher. The titles are: When The Tripods Came (prequel), The White Mountains, The City Of Gold And Lead, and The Pool Of Fire. I first read the trilogy as a teenager and loved it. I have read them all several times (except the prequel which I have only read twice because I found out about it much later than the others.) Hope you enjoy them.
