Please take time to read this wonderful piece of short fiction by Chris Mills.

I enjoyed this engrossing story, Chris, and was disappointed when it ended. It could become a series or book perhaps.

Thanks John. I appreciate you putting up this forum post. I'll have to give some thought about keeping this one going.

Excellent story, Chris. It's good to see you back. I wonder how the young man is faring now? And the little girl and her newborn. It would be interesting to read about their lives after their respective fateful days. Something to consider?

Follow-up stories are always worth considering. I've found that my strength as a writer is in single short stories. I've done series before and enjoy them, but I prefer these single shorts. But I will take your suggestion into consideration. haha. Thanks for reading and commenting.I've missed the HP community so much.

John, I reread my story. The guy must have had his cell phone in a decent waterproof case if he used it to call the ambulance. haha.

Haha that’s true, Chris. Though I think I heard the new iPhones are waterproof…let’s assume they are and that he had one anyway. It is amazing what we uncover when we reread our writing though.

      Hello Chris!
An engaging story, which keeps the reader's attention till the end, rather asking for more. Good to see you back. I have always enjoyed your short stories.
Thank you John, for sharing this in the forum.

    Chris
A touching story about a man who doesn't see himself as a hero.
It's simply a way of life for him.

He's an angel waiting to help those in need...
Wanting nothing in return and willing to risk his own life.

Like John, I think this story could go further.

    Great job.

Thanks Brenda. You've brought out some of the characteristics of this person. I'll add that I think he is lonely as well. This is the first fiction writing I've done in quite a while so I might be a little rusty.

        Chris...
I did assume he is a bit lonely.
But yet, even if he were with someone, there would always be this part of him yearning to help others which the other person might not understand.
        Your words didn't seem rusty...

Wow!  You are a great storyteller, much like Bill Holland.  That my friend is a high compliment.  I agree with John that this could be the start of a book.  Great job, Chris!

I really enjoyed reading your article, Chris. You sure had some interesting nighttime adventures. Finding that baby when she probably didn't have another minute to live is amazing. Thanks for telling your story.

I have a friend who is an RN. In her younger years, she was a missionary nurse in Costa Rica. One day, she delivered a baby in an emergency situation. She didn't have her suction ball, so she cleared the mucous with her mouth. That's where I got that part of the story. Her commitment to those people impressed me so much.

Peggy, I haven't written any fiction since early in the covid days. I'm not sure why, but hopefully I can get back to it now. Thanks for reading and for your comments.
