Val, this is a worthy tribute to our friend Bill. Thank you for also sharing a part of your own story in this poem. I too had a stage in young adulthood when I drank far too much. Not to the stage of being an alcoholic..but too much and too often. Now I may have one drink if I go out to dinner three or four times a year.
Thanks for sharing the kink, Brenda.

Thank you guys for a nice response.
I never got wasted by drinking to the point of not knowing what I was saying or doing, but I just had a need for it on a daily basis, which technically defined me as an alcoholic.
Quit it cold-turkey, the same way I later on quit enormous amounts of coffee, and my daily two packs of cigarettes. Never got tempted afterwards with any of them --( well, I've got this ability to positively brainwash myself). I actually made coffee for my wife the very next morning and didn't feel a thing. And I quit drinking alcohol between Christmas and New Years, "showing off" my resolve to my ex-drinking buddies. They took my quitting much harder than I did, actually nudging me all the time to "have one". People are competitive, and they thought I did it to "advertise my advantages over them" -- not accepting that I did it for myself.
However, while the nasty addiction was going on, it "had to wait" for that point of my saying "It's enough".
As for our friend Bill, I don't have enough words to praise his strong and winning spirit after reading his story. I still see in my life alcoholics who are far from reaching that decision -- let alone sticking to it.

A beautiful tribute to Bill from Val.  Thanks Brenda for sharing it with us.  Both men have risen above obstacles in their path leading to sobriety and a better life.  Kudos to both!
