    Tim...
Awe those shopping trips when we decide to buy those super lotto tickets.
They've caught my eye too but at least you are in California where it seems like the big wins hit.

Perhaps the philosopher is right...luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

I think wisdom is found among the aged...too bad it doesn't come sooner.

Sometimes we gotta be careful what we wish for...like in your case $1.00 so it seems I'm a bit luckier with a ticket for $4.00 but that doesn't count the ones I've lost.

Lions, Tigers, and Bear..Oh No! ~ that's about the size of it.

Tis probably best to forge ahead with reasoning...that good old wisdom.

An interesting & good write for Luck with a bit of food for thought.

I'll post a link in the word prompt article.

Thanks for sharing Brenda!! Yup! You're 100% correct. Two one-dollar lottery tickets on Monday = $104 for the year. Seems it is seeking a bit of luck with its prize. But, for me, is pure fun, fun, fun!

I get two chances too. The California SuperLotto has a second chance drawing with losing tickets. You submit the code on it to your account. You have a chance of winning $15,000 while there are five prizes given at that amount.

Comparatively, I think of the people driving 12 miles to Valley View Casino. I would 'bet' my bottom dollar they spend more than two bucks, right?

As I see it it brings joy as I am filled with hope! Keeps me forging ahead one step at a time or day at a time. How about you?

Thanks for sharing Tim's poem, Brenda. Tim, great poem. You give us a wonderful, in-depth exploration of luck, preparation, opportunity and decisions. Very thoughtful on the ways we can define luck but cannot always grasp it.

Janis, Thanks!! My muse has awakened from a deep sleep for quite some time now. I hope she remains with me for a while. I never know who my muse is . . . maybe? It can be from Greek, Roman, or Norse mythology.

      From where art she arrives,
a mystery never told to me,
Some say her home is the cosmos,
Maybe, truth be told, a Dear Friend.

        Tim,
What a beautiful poem. smile Thank you for adding it to your post. By the way, I credit Brenda for waking my muse with her word prompts, somewhere around the end of the pandemic. We both are benefitting from our HP friend. smile

Tim, this poem is an excellent response to Brenda’s “luck” prompt. You offer both wisdom and humour, and much to reflect on.
Thank you for sharing the link, Brenda.

Thanks, Jodah!! We do have to have the capacity to laugh perhaps with luck, right? The Greek goddess, Tyche, dispensed good fortune.  Gelos was the divine personification of laughter. Maybe they teamed up on me. Who knows!

Appreciated, Rosina! As we discover with all the submissions 'Luck' has many perspectives. All are true in their own way as I see it. Reading them perhaps brings insight and enlightenment. That in my eyes is good fortune - Luck.

A beautiful response to the word prompt "Luck".
Tim, I enjoyed it very much. Your muse is lovely. Only I had to check what does a California Super Lotte Ticket meant. There after, I enjoyed each and every reflection on Luck. Your concluding paragraphs were also much interesting.

Thank you, Brenda, for sharing this link.

Thanks, Venkatachari!! I hope my muse keeps me inspired. Certainly, Brenda's word prompts will point me in the right direction with creativity.

Do you have lotteries in India? Seems everyone has them these days. A few weeks ago the PowerBall lottery in 45 states of 50, Washington D.C, and the territories of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands got to $1.765 billion U.S. dollars when someone finally won. (146,917,982,250 Rupees) There was just one winner. Lucky Duck! wink I can't imagine it, myself. Wow!!

You can take it in a cash value, which was $774.1 million. (64,435,813,065 Rupees) Or, If the winner selects the annuity option, they will receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year. That means the first annual payment would be $60,862,069. (5,066,182,271 Rupees)

Those are two-dollar tickets. (166 Rupees) I got two tickets on Mon for five weeks. So, ten bucks. (832 Rupees) They have three PowerBall drawings a week - Mon, Wed, and Sat.

Of course, I didn't win. Not even a buck. ha-ha Oh well! Hope was alive and Luck on the horizon, or so I thought. But, it was fun, fun, fun! Definitely, exciting! Now I am back to my usual two one-dollar SuperLotto tickets on Monday. That one doesn't grow as much, yet just one million would make me happy.

I guess I didn't think about anyone not hearing about lotteries, but our worlds are so different.

I often need to look up words myself.

Hooray! They say that we get more of what we're grateful for. So more luck to you, next time, Tim! I enjoyed the poem. I guess that chasing luck through the waiting period is part of the fun.

Tim, your recount of those lottery fund generations is surprisingly amazing. Yet there they are. If those funds get used for the betterment of the economy, well and good. But if it tucks into the pockets of sum lottery goons, then it is very unwelcome.

Yes, in India, we do have lotteries. Both sponsored ones and the gambling ones. Sponsored ones are offered at no cost when you purchase things. They are incentives (alluring in a true sense) to increase their sales. But I never go for them.

Yup, as huge a sum as that PowerBall lottery was it would be simple greed, not share, right?

As old as I am one million would last a lifetime. I would share with my siblings enough for their lifetime left and give my nephews and nieces a kick start. Enough to help, but not so much that they don't learn lessons of life.

The rest would probably go to charities. I would make that my full-time retirement job for whom to donate to.

Alas, one would have to win first, right?

    Hello Tim,
An excellent response to the word prompt, Luck.
You have shared words of wisdom with so much ease, and a lot to think and reflect.
Honestly, I have never been lucky with lotteries.
I loved this line in your poem—‘Luck is what happens, when preparation meets opportunity.’
Thank you for sharing your thoughts in this well crafted poem.
    Thank you Brenda.

Don't feel bad about winning the big lucky lottery. There is a history of big winners in lotteries having more of an negative effects on their lives than possitiive.  People who earn their money along the way with a little luck are happier.

tsmogposted 21 months agoin reply to this

Along with that is a history of people doing amazing things with their good fortune too!! I know many charities have benefited from winners. I read an article where one winner of a big lottery paid for two new fire stations to be built. In my book, that is something fantastic!!

There are two sides to a coin, right? Yes, many people are happy with their own efforts creating their own luck. I am one of those. But, I play two bucks on Mondays. What do I have to lose? There are people going to the casino about 15 miles away that lose what I pay in a year in one night.

Gambling is very high risk investment the house wins the vast majority and mainly the poor gamble.. Gambling and alcohol is worse.

          Rather invest in life.

Thank you much Chitrangada!! I am glad you enjoyed the poem.

Yes, the favorite line you chose was the theme of the poem. And, it was for an article I wrote too about solving a dilemma from bad luck. I applied that principle coming out ahead so far or made good luck for me.
