Bathroom, Kitchen and Garage Storage Cabinets

Updated on January 2, 2010

A home cannot be considered organized unless there is a place where you can store items and also be able to quickly find them when they are needed.  There are many types, sizes, styles, and uses for storage cabinetry within the home and even outdoors.  Metal, plastic, and wood are all durable types of materials used in the making of cabinetry and storage systems.  Bathroom, kitchen and garage storage cabinets are used to remove clutter from the living spaces of your home.  Finding a place for everything and having everything in its rightful place can bring function into the most important parts of your home.  An investment in the organization of your home can also bring peace and tranquility into your everyday life.

Bathroom Storage Cabinets

Bathroom storage cabinets come in various sizes, types, styles, and materials. Most bathroom storage units are made of plastic or wood. Plastic storage cabinets are great in a bathroom area because the material can be found in many different colors and it is durable enough to withstand high moisture and mildew. Wood storage cabinets are also typically used in bathrooms and are usually painted or sealed to prevent damage from moisture and mildew. Metal storage cabinets are another alternative but metal doesn’t work well in high moisture areas so the finish may start to rust or change color with time.

Bathroom storage cabinets and organization systems can include cabinetry, shelves, and hooks for storing items like extra linens, supplies, and accessories. Some storage units are short and can be hung on a wall while others are stand alone and much taller. The most frequently used type of bathroom storage cabinetry is one that can fit directly above the toilet area. In most cases the area above a toilet is empty and not being utilized to its maximum capacity. Adding a storage unit with cabinets and shelves is a great way to utilize that space for storage and function especially in smaller bathrooms. You can find many different bathroom storage ideas and solutions online. Some websites offer free shipping which could save you even more on your bathroom storage system.

Kitchen Storage Cabinets

There are many types of kitchen storage cabinets on the market today.  The cabinets in your kitchen whether they are located below or above your kitchen countertops constitute the primary type of storage in your kitchen.  Secondary storage units can include a separate pantry cabinet, shelving, and cleaning supply cabinet.  Wine storage cabinets are also considered secondary cabinets because they are not a necessity in a kitchen area but they sure are very effective for wine or beverage storage and organization.  There are also many different types of kitchen storage items that can help you organize the interiors of your cabinets including cabinet door and shelf organizers.  You can find these interesting organization solutions online and at local home improvement stores.

Kitchen storage cabinets can be made of many different types of materials including wood, metal, and plastic.  Wooden storage cabinets are the most popular because primary kitchen cabinetry is also made of many different types of wood.  Metal storage cabinetry works great for kitchen that have stainless steel appliances.  A metal cabinet or shelving acts as both storage and an accent piece within the décor.  Metal pan and accessory holders are also great organization tools for the kitchen whether they are installed directly above a range or island.  You can find these and many more kitchen storage ideas and solutions on the internet.

Garage Storage Cabinets

Garage storage cabinets can include regular cabinetry that can be locked to keep dangerous, large, or expensive tools and supplies away from small children.  Tool storage cabinets are probably the most popular type of garage storage available today.  You can find tool storage systems and many other types of garage storage organizers including cabinetry, shelving, peg boards, hooks and anchors, and even overhead storage units online or at home improvement stores.

Most garage storage cabinetry is made of either metal, plastic, or wood.  Metal cabinets are more sturdy and durable.  Metal cabinetry can be used to store small tools like screwdrivers, screws, and nails to large items like saws, drills, and hammers.  Plastic cabinets work well for the housing of garden and cleaning supplies.  Plastic storage bins and boxes work well for storing out of season items that do not need to be accessed frequently.  Wood cabinets aren’t as popular in the garage but wooden shelves definitely are.  Use shelving units to fill in wall space above a work bench or gardening table.  You can also add shelving above a sink to keep cleaning and garden supplies like fertilizers and plant food away from children.

If clutter and lack of organization is taking over your home and quality of life then it may be time to invest in an organization system.  Kitchen, bathroom and garage storage cabinets can be fairly inexpensive to purchase.  Regardless of the price, the investment is well worth every penny when it comes to adding more function, organization, and stability in your life.

The garage storage cabinets are an excellent storage idea. I agreee with Kevin's comments above that the prefab garage cabinets are the best. They are basically preassembled and are extremely economical.

Though I am biased, don't use metal cabinets in the garage unless it is aluminum or stainless steel. Otherwise, rust WILL set in and its game over...

I provide a melamine cabinet, with lifetime warranty, that can take the abuse. Another popular option is to add overhead racks above where the car hood resides. It is a great way to add space without using a square foot of the garage.
