Does anyone know the best way to install posts for log stair railing?.
I've attached to ceiling before (photo) but I've not done short posts. How do you attach at the bottom? Into the stair tread or off the side of the stairs? I'd be greatful for any help.
You'd want to attach it to the side. You gett better (side to side) strength and stability, especially if you bolt it in two places, perhaps offset from center.
Email me if you like and I'll draw you a sketch to clarify.

Does anyone know what this is exactly? My best guess is a mushroom...It is the thing that is in the middle of the picture. It is very low to the ground. It is hard as a rock. And it is all over our front yard. It looks almost like coral, but brownish/black.
