If the economy collapsed, there is no food, you weren't prepared; how will you feed your family?

This is a great question, albeit one that no one will want to think about, yet it is important that the reality is faced; this could happen!

So, how would I feed my family...? As a lifelong city dweller this will be a tough one.  In an ideal world communities will pull together and support one and other, but unfortunately I think this will never happen; survival instincts will kick in and it will be each man for himself.

Mate, I don't know how to answer this one...it is a very scary prospect...

    Anyone else?

there is food everywhere around us for an emergency.  I live in the city and i can sustain my family on what is around us for quite some time.  Not with anything they are used to or would eat if I told them what it was and where I obtained it.  But nevertheless, nutritious and life saving.

Besides, the govt needs us all alive to buy more goods from their benefactors, the corporations.  they will provide food and water at a price.

My wife and I both have a decent "green thumb", and I continuously qualified "expert" marksman for seven years, not to mention been shooting my whole life. The only thing I'm lacking is skills in butchering and preserving the game I get, hopefully I'll have a chance to procure those skills prior to the inevitable collapse.

When push comes to shove humans become quite tasty.

In most survival situations where the food runs out the people eat each other.  Sounds like the human thing to do.

It's a good question because it is quite a possible situation in the near future.  Food could run out quite quickly and government could collapse rapidly then it's everyone for themselves.  Mad Max here we come.

Interesting question! It is hard to think of not having food, bugs can even be good for someone that might be starving, so are certain types of leaves, cactus, heck, I might even look at the pet. However, you asked if "there is no food..." If their was no food to feed my family because I did not prepare, I would have to prep them for what is to come, what to expect, and how to survive, because I would cut myself open before I let my children starve.

If things go that bad that fast such that you have no time to really prepare....you are in a survival situation and maybe living in a war zone at the same time.  Don't expect much help from anyone because they are just trying to survive as well.  In a survival situation food, water, and shelter are the primary considerations.  This is no time for panic, anger, or disbelief.  You are on your and you better plan on providing food, water, and shelter, if you and your love ones are to survive.  There are too many scenarios to discuss each one of these here but they would be keep and complimentary if you are successful.  In terms of food, your family might have to reconsider what their taste buds relish for a bit until you could get to the stage of raising garden.  Before that point, you are in the eating berries, bugs, and bushes scene.   And don't say it can't happen in America because the government will be there to help...you are living in a fantasy world if you believe that! I would say that at that point that the cities would no longer be safe for my family (noting Butch's cannibal theory). I would pack up and head for the mountains. Having some training in wilderness survival is helpful. I would hold up there making periodic scouts back to the general populous to check the current status.

Mother Nature made us hunters and warriors, that is how small scale societies survived before the complicated economies of today, that is how we have survive if economies collapse.  You will also need to hunt and fish whilst you wait for your newly farmed back garden, and any other scrap of land you can fight for and defend, to produce crops.

There are too many eatable things of nature to be completely void of food. There will be a time call the "Great tribulation" whereas there will be a dark time like no other time on the face of the earth. It will be the time Span and Events of the 3ed of the 7 Hidden seals of Revelation's which shall also include "The Mark of the Beast"...World Dictatorship...the 2 beast shall be active,Rev.13v12...All nations shall be at war...there shall be many new diseases,Famine, epidemics like the Black Death and various plagues shall be in the world.Only certain ones shall not be affected by this tribulation and vexation upon Humankind, and they will be those of who will not accept the mark of the beast nor live in the conduct and corruption of his image.Go to my profile and read my hub Spiritual Warfare.
