   Where have you been? Why are you behind the curve..? Hedonism is alive, healthy and ruling most of mankind... especially in America.

   I would go so far as to call the US a narcissistic society. But this could be a good thing, because unchecked personal ego is the fuel for activism and change.

   Well, in my observation, selfishness as worldview and behavior is most pronounced in people on the lower levels of realization. That is, people who don't spend much time analyzing themselves, their behavior, who don't think on the reasons behind things and who concentrate mostly on narrow interests without appreciating the Big picture. The more basic people, in their level of psychological advancement, are the more selfish ones.
   
   The more aware you become on the reasons behind human behavior on the whole, the more you realize your own character flaws and traits. And the more you are able to consciously modify them.

   It has been. People are so filled with pride its sad really. All's they think about is I, me, I me and YOU should do THIS because it will make ME happy. I wish people would take a step back and stop being so self-centered. The world simply revolves and its not around anyone.

   I don't know whether or not narcissism is about to overtake society.  If it doesn't affect me then it is probably not important. After all, I am the most important thing in my life and the world pretty much revolves around me.

   Interesting that some see it as a benefit to society. I never looked at it that way before, and I see your point. In that direction, I would have to ask do Jim Jones (of Jonestown fame) and David Koresh (of Waco fame) qualify as the kind of fuel that is beneficial to society?
   
   Caution to those who equate narcissism with hedonism. This was not meant to be a quiz, but the two are essentially unrelated. Narcissism is love and respect of self. Hedonism is the belief that pleasure is the most important thing in life... pleasure for one, and pleasure for all. The more the better.
