Knowing what most panhandlers do with money they "earn," is there any good reason to give them any?
yes... because we never really know...or why they may.... its better to know the result was though a gift and not through a crime because if what you imply is true... the result will be no mater the source
I like to offer them food or drink instead of money. I worry about how they will spend it, but I think each case is different.
We can never be absolutely sure what they use the money for, but either way they still must eat so hopefully some of it goes for that.
A good reason is how it makes you feel thinking that you've helped in some small way.
Well, just as it's up to you whether you give them any money, it's still up to the pandhandler what to do with the money you give them.
Living or working in the city, you get use to them. Giving one panhandler a dollar while walking down the street only to be accosted by 4 more within 100 feet...your dollar isn't going to make a difference.
If you want to help out the needy, give money to charity. Tell the panhandlers to catch a ride to Labor Ready.
I know a guy who panhandles for a living...has a house and a family. He makes enough money to pay his mortgage. He's not an alcoholic or a drug user either. It's just crazy. People who don't know him give him money all the time because of the "role" he plays. Appearances aren't always everything!!!
i don't give them money...i will buy them a meal and a drink and take it to them...i just can't give money to someone who is standing by the road, a sign asking for money in one hand and a cigarette in the other...i can't pay for their habit..not judging their habit...but can't support it..but i can feed them...'you do it unto to the least of these my brethren you do it unto me.'
Its not about what they do with it, it's about encouraging them to do it. The more people that give them money, the more will do it. There are also professional panhandlers. People that have homes, etc but know they can make more money, tax free, so they choose to do it instead of getting a job. I refuse to give money to them because I don't want to see more and more of them on the corners.

In the Christian faith, God is defined as follows: All Powerful, All Knowing. Good, Omnipresent, Loving, etc. etc. But when you put that definition beside the rest of Christian theology, it doesn't work. It contradicts. The Christian God cannot be All Knowing and Good and All Powerful. One of...
