What do you do if you are turned away at the voting booth?

What do you do if you are turned away at the voting booth even though you are legally registered to vote in that location?

Having been a poll worker myself you should be instructed to go to the local Office of Elections and resolve the problem there.  There are provisions for you to vote at that location if you are actually elgibile to vote.

The main reason you would not be able to vote would be lack of identification.  As a poll worker myself I know that you can ask for a provisional ballot.  Fill it out and bring ID as instructed by the poll workers.  Another reason to be turned away would be disruptive behavior.  So as a reminder to those out their respect the voting process, behave with simple politeness and please NO electioneering.  Respect the 75 foot line and enjoy your right to vote.

You really need to be more specific.  I work the polls and we want everyone that meets the requirements to vote.  What was the reason given as to why you were turned away...?

I haven't been turned away.  I am asking the question in light of early voting problems in Florida and elsewhere.  I am in NH and you can fill out a provisional ballot if there is a problem.

Although your local board of elections has jurisdiction over these matters, the most practical thing to do is to contact your local headquarters of the party you are registered with. They have attorneys on alert for such matters.

Write down all relevant information about the incident: the date and time, polling location, name(s) of the individual(s) involved, summary of what took place, and any names and contact information of witnesses. You have several options to report voting rights violations. You can report the incident to election monitors that may be stationed at your polling site. You can call the  Legal Defense and Education Fund’s toll-free Election Day Hotline at 800-966-5946, or by email at votingcomplaints@aaldef.org. You can also call Election Protection at 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683).
I looked this up,  I am very much into voting this year.  I have my I.D. and am going to vote.

Ask to speak to supervisor of location, else go down to city hall.

Keep in mind, trying to intimidate poll worker in order to vote twice will get one arrested. I think a lady in Nevada get to test this personally. big_smile  The second polling place checked computer and says she'd voted already, and she insisted she hadn't.
