Why do people still vote? What is the worst that could happen if no one in the world voted?
In some countries, people vote because it is mandatory, and they are fined if they don't vote.
The worst that could happen? Perhaps we'd all be taken over by dictators, because without votes, democracy would be dead. It isn't the best system, but better we have votes than are told exactly what to do by people we didn't elect.
Just my opinion.
1. If no one is allowed to vote, and democracy is an organized overthrow of the government, then the people who are unhappy have only violent means for change and that we don't want.
2. If no one cares to vote but the vote matters, then the few who DO vote has disproportionate power compared to everyone else.
3. If no one cares to vote, we risk an aristocracy where power is passed to family and maybe friends of those in power. We already see that in too many elections where Liz Cheney won her father's seat in Congress based on name recognition, Hillary Clinton riding on Bill's reputation for politics herself, Jeb Bush, Ted Kennedy's offspring trying but failing.
I didn't ask "what if no one was allowed to vote" but what if everyone just decided to not vote .
If people decide not to vote, those in power remain in power and we get a ruling class likely to pass power on to their families - aristocracy, and that is bad.
We have already had that in the world, and it was called Kings, Queens and other dictators. History Class?
