I also read this was a quote from Benjamin Franklin. Don't know which is correct.
one that has me mesmerized right now is, strangely, from the bible.
its from psalms, i'm too lazy to look up what chapter and verse.
be still and know that "I" am god.
on simple sentence speaks volumes, though when i devoured the bible on a daily basis passages like these didn't have near the same impact.
I'm probably being redundant, but I tell this quote of my father's when I get the opportunity--
"Trust none of what you hear and only half of what you see."

From My Hub:
"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness but of power. They are messengers of overwhelming grief and of unspeakable love." Washington Irving
“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.” by Charles R.Swindoll.
"Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity, nothing exceeds the criticisms made of the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well-warmed, and well-fed." Herman Melville.
