The Republican has become more reactionary since Richard Nixon became president. The Republican Party before Nixon was a centrist leaning party. Eisenhower, a Republican president, spoke against the military-industrial complex. He also was for integration. When Nixon became president, the Republican Party became more authoritarian. It started swinging to the right. With Nixon, the Republican Party attracted many reactionary elements.
